I would argue that this, by itself, makes the sum unreasonable, by definition.

A nice analogy mate, even if it is one that casts Dwight loving Gayle as my namesake, a ruthless opportunist and world class executioner-in-chief, rather than the slightly more accurate impression given of a fairly shite version of Michael Thomas.

Such a game warrants no analysis. There's maybe a discussion to be had about the subs and the mysterious case of Danny Agger, but that's really best left for now. Suffice to say at 3-1, I felt that unease. The one at whispered "that's no consolation". At 3-2, it was as palpable as my throbbing pulse. That same sense almost forgotten. The dread of inevitability.

I last felt it in '89. Palace did us in the FA semi a year later, so they have form in that respect. Even Athens, as resigned as I was to us returning the "better team lost" favour (might have had something to do with a certain lone striker, the footballing equivalent of trying to pick a lock with a wet fish), it never felt quite like this. Sickening.

In 2009 also, it was different. Failing to capitalise, as opposed to succeeding to capitulate. This time, we had one firm hand on the trophy. Now we have a buttery fingertip at best. To snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. To choke. To do a Novotna. That is what will be remembered in the years to come, and will be accompanied by that involuntary shudder, the pain from an old wound.

And that would be a crying shame. Because this season deserves so much more than that memory alone. It deserves recognition not recrimination. A century of goals. An attacking style many of us thought we'd never see anytime soon. And barring divine intervention (not sure even God could stomach Damien Comolli claiming the credit if Andy Carroll scores the winner on Sunday), we need to look back at what we've achieved against all the odds (and let's be honest, all our expectations) and be grateful. Football, like life, isn't about getting what you want or even deserve. It's about appreciating what you have.

Let the so-called "neutral" peasants snigger on Twitter at Gerrard's ironic slip, of both tongue and step. Let the English media fuckwits continue to fellate that anti-football arch specialist in failure as some sort of tactical genius. As our captain said in that centre circle rallying cry "we go again". And that we will. Next season. In the Champions League too, lest we forget.

This was an advert by a local company in the programme for the game, and tbf was a pretty valid tactic since thats what the players actually did. Was hilarious to see people running on overlaps and instead the ball would go to Scholes who seemed to often have 2 men marking him

Also I know the Iniesta thing is bullshit with no sources, but last night a United legends team played against Bayern Legends, and at half time Schweinsteiger went to the dressing room and sought out Scholes and asked for his shirt, so Scholes played the 2nd half in a shirt with no number

Arsenal fans like I have been waiting for this day for many years. We always knew that we would have to be patient about our budget as we had to pass the burden of building the Emirates Stadium. After FA Cup and Community Shield, we really feel vindicated. We have kept our faith on Arsene Wenger and the self-sustaining model of Arsenal.

Fans of other clubs, we don’t mind if you still laugh at us. May be, this is our last season to laugh at us. We really don’t mind. Our good time has really started. So, please enjoy yourself as long as you can. We are heading towards becoming the strongest club in England with best manager and best financial model and most dedicated supporters. We really have the winning combination.

It's not about being a fan of soccer. I'm a soccer fan. Have been for more than 3 decades. Supported a England in person before 1990. The American's that follow the game are fully informed. Soccer is irrelevant. It's about wanting actual competition. It's about a culture that puts a premium on being the best and a European one that doesn't. That's a class system here lower classes know their place and stay their and you bow to royals. And a country where we told Royals to f-off everyone is supposed to be equal with the same chance to succeed and rise and fall. That's a fundamental tenant of American culture (not that in practice it's applied 100% of the time because we all know that idea was qualified by race). But It's about a culture where whether it's real or fake in reality, you're still fed "if you work hard you can get ahead" "You can be anything you want to be" and a European culture that says, Royals were born to rule and you were born a commoner. All Aston Villa is a team satisfied with being a commoner and to fight over the scraps, the spoils the elite teams don't care nearly as much about because now they have more important things. Americans fully get it. They don't need to learn it. They simply don't want a league where only the rich and wealthy win. They same as their politics their justice system and a whole host of other things.

Yes, this is why Americans invented promotion and relegation while Europeans allow wealthy club owners to move their clubs to different cities if they think it will make them more money.
