Pillbug
I remember playing this game a while back (and really enjoying it) until ~Goon Drama~ pretty much killed it for me (along with the increasingly "Pay to Win" nature of the game as time went on). I still want a big stompy multiplayer Mechwarrior game, but I just don't want PGI to have anything to do with it.

I wish Microsoft would just rip the license out of their hands and give it to a competent developer but I imagine they've got much bigger poo poo to worry about at this point.

ECM still seems pretty powerful though, since LRMs are pretty good again. TAG and NARC supporting an LRM team can swing games, so ECM cover preventing easy TAGing and general targeting is helpful. Plus the general use of shutting down streaks and denying snipers the ability to aim for opened sections as easily.

Wait, what? ECM does not block TAG as it is "supposed" to per Battletech; in MWO, TAG burns through ECM as a hard counter.

I had fun playing this game for a bit. I spent some money. I became disillusioned with the lies and cockups. Clan "invasion" cashgrab and gold mechs were what finally put me over the edge. That and Paul Inoyyoyeyeoeye being completely incompetent.

Launch Module Update – Feb 27, 2014

The Launch Module, a new means of connecting players together in a more comprehensive and structured manner with the ability to play in a space that suits their own needs.

This Launch Module incorporates changes to how teams are assembled in the Match Maker and how groups are dealt with when queuing for matches. A separate game space is created as well that allows players to take more control of their experience in terms of a player controlled Lobby.

In this post, you will learn about the following:
Changes to the Solo/Group Public Match
Addition of Free Private Matches and Premium Private Matches
How the design and engineering team made certain key decisions on getting the features implemented.

Surprising Stats:

Let’s start with some surprising facts pulled from the game server’s metrics:
Out of all matches launched, 84% are solo launches.
16% are group launches. (We omitted our 12-mans because they will be dealt with separately)
Of that 16%, 8% are 2-man groups, 4% are 3-man groups and 4% are 4-man groups.

This was very surprising to us as it was assumed that most launches would have been groups.
That being said, we looked at our overall goal of what we wanted the player experience to be when players launch into our game. Right now we have issues of lopsided teams in terms of Mech builds and overall tonnage. Another thing we kept in mind was the number of team players being mixed with the solo players.
We deem that public matches are where we, the developers, set the rules and expectations of the end player experience. Private matches are where the players set the rules and expectations of the end player experience. (Private matches detailed further down.)

Dear lord, this is some of the weirdest stuff I have ever read before. I do not like coming in here and being negative, but the stuff in this post just screams 'inexperienced dev' to me.

If their server usage is so unoptimized that they need to charge F2P players to use them, I can't imagine how horrible their systems design is. If you are concerned about server costs, that is just a symptom of bigger issues.

Also, why do you need ~6 pages to justify why you are doing things a certain way? Because that entire 6 pages is devoted to minimizing the feature you are 'promoting'. Literally the entire post reads as "We real don't want to do this, but if we have to, this is how we will limit it so it still fits with our vision".

And the biggest concern is their using of 'stats' to back up their choices. Looking at that, I can tell they pulled some raw numbers from their tracking system and went off that. All that shows is what people are doing NOW. Not what people want, or what they expect, or how willing they are to change. Nor does it seem to be of any concern to them that in their 'team work based game' 84% of their players are not playing it 'like they should'.

I really don't want to see Piranha fail on this, but seeing stuff like this is so frustrating. I have worked with them before (they were hired as outsourcers for us) and they are better than this. There are SO MANY RESOURCES available to game developers on F2P games and so many 'do this, don't do that' talks, videos, experienced developers, publishers, blogs, papers, even a college thesis or two, that the only conclusion that I can come to is that Piranha, in general, think they are smarter than not only their players, but also the rest of the entire game industry.

Seriously Piranha, please get your poo poo together.

I just saw a video on YT about a Direwolf with two C-AC/20's and two C-UAC/20's.

When all shots connected it melted another Direwolf in like a second. (although it had lots of heat a competent player can bypass that problem by not being a bad)

Something about this doesn't seem quite balanced, wouldn't you say? :pgi:

ECM doesn't do most of what it's supposed to do. It shuts down Streak SRMs (it's not supposed to), Active Probe is a soft counter to ECM (ECM is supposed to hard counter active probes), and ECM can make mechs invisible (ecm is supposed to be electronically noisy). There's almost nothing right about MWO's ECM implementation.

It can't do poo poo at arm's length, and on most maps it might never get in range to use those guns. A close range specialist SHOULD be face-melting. My only issue is that most other brawlers aren't as good as they should be. Also, it has virtually no ammunition. It can do that trick 2 or three times a match, and then it's done.

The 2x UAC-10, 2x UAC-5 version takes a little longer but can murder people a lot further away and has more ammo. And a few lasers too. Watched one just buzzsaw an Atlas to bits in about 10 seconds flat.

I'm sure you know this, but for people who are familiar with how sensors work in other Mechwarrior games and not this one, this all comes down to the fact that PGI's "sensor" system is loving retarded and is based entirely on literally staring at your opponent. Your "sensors" are only as good as your eyeballs. If you can see an enemy mech and they're less than some distance away, they show up on your and your teammate's sensors. If you don't move further away but you turn your view so you can't see them, they disappear.

loving amazing.

It's a list of your mechs, you can sort them by chassis-name or weight-class. Before you had just a list that was based on when you aquired a mech and that could not be sorted in any way. It's one of the few times :pgi: actually improved something.

I can see how this can unbalance some mechs, but for others it is a nice boost. A lot more mediums can do builds similar to the menturian when they can make full use of their missile slots. One of the Shadowhawks look like it could work well as a menturain stand-in, one less med laser, but it has jumpjets, a pretty solid tradeoff.

It is also undocumented and not really intuitive to new players.

The real loss is no longer being able to put a LRM20 in a narc tube.

The real gain is seeing 4 racks of SRMs on a medium.
