Obviously anything's possible but I'm dubious. On the other hand, that would be something to see... you'd be able to find out where the Quake Live forum's server is geographically located just by following the glow over the horizon.

As far as I can tell, that's not it, but maybe I'm just misremembering how it worked. I'll try out some of the recommendations in the OP and see if anything rings a bell. Seems like there's a bunch of cool stuff that came out since the last time I looked, so that's awesome.

EDIT: So, apparently you can run Chex Quest with Brutal Doom.

Samsara was actually why I grabbed all of Chex Quest. Just need to get Heretic and Hexen off of Steam now. Isn't one of the sequels missing?

Heretic 2 and Hexen 2's expansion pack aren't on Steam.

Got to play with the MT-32 I just got in last night. Used the buttons on it to swap out the Synthbass in Doom E1M1 with a French horn for hijinx.

Awesome MIDI messages when booting, and exiting, Rise of the Dragon.

Need a iphone app that can play .mid and load .sf2.

I have to work today and the midi withdrawal is p.bad.

Yeah, but not Chex and Samsara. There's a specially designed version for Samsara (on the addons page), but it only works for Doom apparently.

Apparently the final version of Doom: The Golden Souls is out soon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKk9QbH5mqA

The developer says they're working on the last few bits right now, scripting the ending, polishing up some levels, etc. Should be fun, and a nice return to Silly Doom after finishing Pirate Doom.

I try to launch the mod in GZDoom, and I keep getting this error.

code:
Script error, "GoldenSouls_Beta1.6.5.pk3:redemption.wad:DEC_WEPS" line 112:
Unexpected token string constant "GSReloader"
I had a similar error with another mod I tried a while ago. Should I use something else (like ZDoom) when running mods?

I was starting to play BTSX in GZDoom with Beautiful Doom enabled, the BTSX .wad and .deh at the top of the load list, and I get weird color glitches. The muzzleblasts will have some blue in them, for example. Load BTSX later in the list cut the extra animation from Beautiful Doom.

Anybody know what would be causing this? Neither of those mods exhibit glitchy color if I run them individually.

Jblade
Sep 5, 2006

IIRC it's because BTSX has a custom palette which can mess around with the PNGs if they use the base Doom palette.

Nearly there; PNGs are safe as they use their own palette, it's the Doom picture format that doesn't and that may cause problems with mods used with BTSX. Converting every graphic in Beautiful Doom to PNG should solve the issue.

I guess I just don't understand how game engines work. Sims 4 is being released while missing features from previous games, features that they claim are impossible to implement. I think all games should just use the Doom engine, it's clearly the most versatile.

Ha ha, no, Donkey Kong and Megaman X look way better than that. It is mods using ripped sprites.

Think it's just sprite rips and some layering for the depth effect. I checked it vs. the original but it's definitely not an SNES emulator - I think it's just a poo poo ton of scripts.
