That's not true I've seen Firecats and Mammoths do perfectly fine on squad 3. You just have to find a spot that funnels enemies closer together for easy AoE. Also you still thump just not for the metals. Nobody gives a poo poo about those but thumping is the best way to get lots of spawns to kill for drops I've had about a dozen epics drop while thumping, half of them modules, some of them I could use, the rest I sold.

Can you talk a bit more about what areas work to funnel the mobs? The amount of verticality in the game often leads to me finding mobs crawling over whatever is behind me.

I don't think board missions are that bad, I'd still do them. I'd try to do any crashed thumper or ARES mission you see in the area since those give more experience for the time you put into them compared to the board missions, but you can do those during a board mission if you're nearby. Just make sure you're doing missions in your level range (+/- 3 levels) so you'll get the most out of the mission.

This, but with Dragonfly. About half of the boss time was spent figuring it out, though, since that was the first time I'd ever been in BWA. Several deaths happened on the boss that first time through.

It is a little trial and error. I tend to look for spots with a tree, mountain, hill or some structure next to the thumper so it can't really be attacked from that direction, (or at the edge of a tall cliff). You also want to pay attention to how spawns happen, if you are in an open field, on top of a hill, and mobs can spawn 360 degrees around you, you are in for a lot of work. If the mobs have to take a specific path to get at the thumper that might work to your advantage if you can turn it into a choke point. Also consider agro management. Some mobs may go straight for the thumper, others may break agro and go for you when you start shooing them (which can really gently caress you up if pubbies start shooting poo poo and pulling mobs to areas you aren't expecting). Placing a thumper is also trial and error because the map is anything but consistent, you can place a thumper in one spot, but move a foot over and you get an error about verticality, validity, etc.

Here's one of my spots in DT, right outside camp jasper. Complete with an auto-turret that if you are the one to launch, gives you exp and kill credit. The spawns have a tough time actually hitting the thumper. I have solod s3 there (not chosen drop).

Tried out a 10 man platoon running lowbie Ares missions around cerrado plains and thump dump, and it was a good time. The platoon is a bit buggy and we could not do Job board missions at all; further, it took a quite bit of coordination to make sure everyone was getting credit for the OW missions, but because it was goons it was a blast. I didn't take enough screens shots, but here is the gang rape of a dead pubbie.

and here I was trying to screenshot our dancing tower of goons and failed.

A friend and I tried doing every hardcore mode instance today.

Both BWA and the antarctica one was a pain in the rear end. We forgot Necronus doesn't drop any loot for now, oops. The tower defense one was relatively painless with just us two though, so I'd say it'd be okay for chainrunning with at least two people.

There's your problem. Any frame other than accord engineer tends to outrange bastion, and you'll need some ranged nukin' when it comes to Necronus. This weekend being the biotech xp bonus weekend, I wanted to get my bio to 30 for the perk, so I farmed solo BWA a lot. Got lucky on the first run with the weapon. 25% from VIP, 25% from weekend, 10% from daily bonus and 10% from earlier unlocks or something, not sure, but loved the XP anyway.

Still, boinging between shards chasing nados was faster xp in the end, with lower effort too.

Missions and drops? Yes.

Thumping and crafting? Not really.

Just killing everything that moves? Sure.

I would try out all the different free frames for a bit, see what you like, then focus on doing Crashed Thumper missions whenever you see them, along with the level-appropriate job board missions. And whenever a campaign mission starts, do those too!

I didn't follow any of that advice, but instead ran around and unlocked every sin tower right off the bat, and mostly just fly/climb up things.

Part of the problem is there just isn't enough zones and stories yet. Vanilla WoW had 2-3 zones for every level, so if you became bored with one you could move to another and get a different color palette with new characters and quests. This has a huge mental impact when your leveling your 3rd or 4th character and you're tired of Transhub quests.

Just run up and hit "E" to activate the mission. A bunch of little blue-ish parts shoot out and bugs will start running around. Just pick up parts with "E" and run into the thumper while holding one. (or you can throw it, if you press 1 I think)

Once you stuff a few in there, it'll fly away and reward you (at your level) with an experience reward equal to doing a 2 or 3 part Job Board mission.

Crashed LGVs have a nice XP reward too, but are a little harder, because you have to protect a little drone while it scans it. However, a large part of the time the thing just blows up instead of spawning the "defend the drone" attempt, and you get a good chunk of XP for that.

The level spread across the zones is pretty bad. Coral Forest has a decent level spread, 1-26 with tons of jobs and ARES mission spawns. Then you get to Sertao for 27-36 and things just slow down hard because everything is so spread out and just generally sucks. Then you get to Devil's Tusk and the entire zone is for 37-40 and back to Coral Forest levels of content spread about.

I've gotten a bunch of my frames up to Sertao and then just drop them cause I don't want to bother with Dredge ever again.

If you're enjoying Recluse that much, you might want to get your Biotech to 30 anyway to unlock the Catalytic Poisons perk that causes a delayed burst after being hit by "poison" abilities. What makes it hilarious is even while it activates from your poison effects like bio-crossbow alt fire, any healing ability you have (limited to Healing Wave in the Recluse's case) that hits and deals damage to an enemy also counts as a poison and starts the burst timer. Of note, regular fire and alt fire of Bio Needlers trigger the poison burst as well. For a Recluse you'll pretty much be triggering it all the time. When my Biotech just hit 30 and started using it, it was hitting for 1411 with the equipment I had, it makes quite a difference overall.

Hey guys! I'm about to hit 40 with my bastion and I'm thinking of getting a new battleframe afterwards. I already leveled an engi to 30 for +25% turret damage. I really like the bastion as a defensive, watch-your-turrets-play-for-you class, but I would also like to level up something that is sort of opposite of that. So, something offensive oriented?

Is there anything that benefits from engie/bastion perks? I was looking at arsenal, but I guess it's poop now? help.

Inimicul
Oct 14, 2006

Shenanigans!
When you hit 40 on the Bastion you get the hilarious repulsor perk. If you ring your thumper with all your turrets you can pretty much become immune to aranhas/dogs or encircle a mob to turn it into your own version of bumper cars.

The only other frame that might be able to take advantage of the engi perks you have now would be the Electron if you give it the Heavy Turret. It's just as squishy as the other two engi frames but the gun and abilities make it a much more active player. With some good jets you can saturate an area with AOE or pop your shield and take your time to head shot everything to death. It's also not a very popular frame so you're very likely to get a good deal just by throwing up a cheap buy order.

Did you like any of the other 4 base frames?

The deployable repulsor has an internal cooldown of 20 seconds or so, it mainly helps with keeping poo poo off of ledges you decide to build your nest on, it won't help much if you decide to put your turrets in harm's way instead of cleverly using terrain to your advantage.

The Electron isn't every popular because frankly it's not very good, you're probably gonna have a better time with any other frame and I don't know where you heard that the Arsenal isn't good, it's perfectly fine, all the Dreads are. They're just not very fast which sucks while leveling unless you have a bike.

I don't know how they managed to make the Electron less appealing, but they did. Removing the shock combo instead of making it less inconsistent was the first and worst strike; Making overclocking pad even more unnecessary was a passable second. But did they have to make bulwark less fun? I know it was harder to use when you threw it, but god drat was it satisfying to jumpjet over enemies and throw a low tier Mammoth's worth of HP onto allies in need. I'm not sure how much shielding it actually applies now, but the new easier activation just doesn't have the same satisfaction.

Going to create a few accounts... keep in mind if you use the Steam Client, you can just use Local Files to go to the game folder, go to System -> bin -> FirefallClient.exe, and it will log in not linked to your Steam account, allowing you to create new accounts.

On the plus sude, it's one of the prettiest areas in the game so far. Speaking of which, why doesn't FF have XP rewards for climbing mountains and poo poo? Guild Wars 2 had vistas, which gave you a little flycam runthrough of areas of interest. Firefall could use the same thing, and it'd be something to do other than AREs missions and instances.

They do have vistas and vista rewards. The issue is that vistas are one per sin tower area, only give "atlas point" rewards (which are basically useless), and can only be done once per character (as opposed to once per frame).
