Holy poo poo, no wire wheel involved in those cleanups?

I need to set up an electrolysis cleaning bath. Immediately. Except I'd put all my parts in it and nothing would come back out.

No, those photos are after a quick wire wheel. The item comes out still looking pretty dark, but that seems to be generally the old OEM paint or protectant, which flakes away like paper on a wire wheel. The entire rear driveshaft was maybe 4min of wheel. Keep in mind though these are California cars, so this is probably best case scenario. I've got some old metal thing in there now, that was found in my girlfriend's backyard during landscaping. It looks like it's about 100 years old and covered in Kastein/Sockington level rust, so it will be an interesting test.

It doesn't get hot at all - I pull out the part immediately after unplugging the charger and nothing is even warm. It's running at 12v 10a - as stated previously, I know jack poo poo about electricity but that's not enough to heat up the entire tub, much less alter anything structurally AFAIK.

Dealers make far more money off of used cars. Imported cars would be a massively small drop in the bucket, but dealers would more than likely block their importation rather than lose 1 out of 1000 sales to them.

Or the car dealers could work with the importers and have rad cars on their used car lots? Maybe the car dealers would become importers themselves? To me it seems like for already established businesses there is an opportunity to expand business, but then again I'm also not a car dealer.

I'm with all of you in that I'm not keen on their new model especially for what I feel is an inconsistent roll out of content. I personally feel like I get more from a $10/year auto magazine subscription because it doesn't stop coming for months at a time. I'm much more of a fan of the MCM model or the 'donate what you can and thank you for listening' model that a lot of the car Podcasts are following and that allows you to value the content yourself.

I've never seen NIN live. :suicide:

Since I cancelled OnStar, and don't plan to reactivate it (the OnStar module itself has failed anyway - bad battery, and some cold solder joints for the antenna connection - and is NLA from the dealer - and supposedly you can't pair a used module with it), I'm finally just going to get a :10bux: harness and deal with not having retained accessory power for the stereo.

I snagged a mirror with auto dimming, temp, compass from an 05 Ion at the junkyard today (was hoping to find a trunk floor in good shape, didn't happen though). It plugs/mounts right into my existing mount/wiring, works perfect, just seems a little more touchy about temp swings.

Junkyard wanted $20, which I thought was a little high, but they did help me break into an Ion's trunk to check on the floor (release is electric, used a battery pack to power up the car, which got lights and a pissed off cluster with dinging about low coolant, seat belt, door open, airbags, etc, but still no trunk release function). They wound up crowbaring the seat enough for me to reach in and yank one of the back seat releases, then climb in enough to yank the emergency release. Sadly, the floor was in even worse shape than mine.

Think the factory OnStar mirror is worth selling? I took a quick look at ebay, the basic ones seem to be $30+, the onstar ones are anywhere from $15 to $100. Also fits the Saturn Vue and a couple of Buicks.

Bonus is I made a good friend at the yard (he was busy eating a dead skunk when I showed up :barf:) - he kept following me, then when I took off running, he ran after me, yapping with a wagging tail and parts of dead skunk hanging out of his mouth. Not much of a guard dog, but plenty of fun to gently caress with.

Terrible selfie with the original mirror:

tl;dr sell original onstar mirror, or keep it and reinstall it when I sell the car?

Registration good until October. Drives well needs a Left Rear ABS Sensor this is why the price is low. The car drives good just no speedometer, new sensor is $68-88 on line. I need it gone on now.

If the LR ABS sensor is out, it is probably the loom - and not the sensor. If so, this is going to be a bitch and a half, because I have no rack, and my shittastic ramps are just that.

I don't think I've ever seen a single sensor sending the entire ABS into a shitspin of death (it tends to do that on its own, being Bosch and all).

God drat you viggen and the land of cheap Saabs. But our gas is cheap, a gallon of premium is like... 3.50? Regular (but with 10% ethonal) is 3.26.

I looked at a 95 Range Rover Classic today, The interior was trashed and even had black electrical tape holding the spark plug wires together and something else melting from them. Needless to say, I passed. The viscous diff was toast, and I forgot 95's didn't come with center diff locks, so its a RWD truck until there is a new center diff installed. Which I am not going to gently caress with, because Rovers are hens teeth in the midwest.

Today was sanding. Have I mentioned how I hate sanding? Oh and prop shaft removal. Going to the future wife's dads shop to help out tomorrow and do some u joint removal. He has a press, makes life a million times easier!

Got a 2014 Dodge Charger as a rental as it was (sadly) the most interesting option available. Visibility is poo poo and the throttle is weird but otherwise I don't hate it. The V6 makes a decent noise and if the throttle and slushbox can be convinced to it will actually move along alright. Fairly quiet and comfortable inside with a big trunk and despite the size I've found it pretty easy to park and do the frequent uturns I need to do as I bumble around an unfamiliar city.

Not really an endorsement or anything I just kind of expected less out of ChryCo. :unsmith:

Dear AIry,

I saw a '90 900S with an SPG body kit on it today. I watched in mock horror as the valet broke the reverse lock trying to get the key out. He is the guy who claimed to work at $(CASINO) for 23 years. Wonder what he did for the previous 22. I guess the owner will figure it out whenever he gets home.

I did the Craigslist RSS shuffle again today, and missed out on a 2K2 'vert. It was pretty- and probably would be a mess- but what used SAAB isn't?

I had more 9-3 & 9-5 ACC ribbon cables made up, and have them and both style LCD cables for SIDs in stock. I just got the CR17335SE-FTs that I ordered, and along with the caps, so can now offer a 'fix your own alarm' kit for about the cost of the batteries alone. From what I've learned about eBay, DIY hobbyists turn a parts purchase into 'please fix my fuckup' labor, so I should take advantage of testosterone fueled by beer.

Also, I know you, AIry, are the one who has been using my toothbrush. Stop post haste!
