The level of betrayal I felt when Paradox announced their new RPG without the option to use NATO counters tore something from me that I'll never be able to recover. They tore away my ability to respect anything, and they tore away my ability to feel human.

I ended up buying it anyway later, ya know, because of Steam. If I remember right, when you launched it a screen popped up prompting you into some demo scenario but you could just click X and be at the main menu for the full game.

Ok, I can't seem to find an answer anywhere, so in Darkest Hour/Kiaserreich how should I be weighing tech team skill and specialisations? Should I pick a team with 2 of the 5 focuses and skill 5, or a team with one focus but skill 6? If I have a single 9 skill team, should I use them for techs that my other teams only match 1 or two of the focuses even if the 9 skill team has no relevant focuses? I can't seem to find any discussion or answer around this topic, so I would like some guidance.

They way I heard it forever ago is that one specialization is worth roughly two points of skill, but it varies based on how much that particular specialization is used for the tech (the numbers beside each category when you select the tech).

Speaking from my completely unscientific gut feeling, I think the focuses are generally better than the skill, but I have no idea exactly how.

I believe having a focus doubles the effective skill of the team when it is being used. Tech teams also cost money based on their base skill, so a team with skill 4 and all the focuses will research at the same speed as a skill 8 team with no focuses, but will cost half as much money to do it. I love the gaps in the tech teams you get in Hearts of Iron 2 - I always end up with Hermann Goering researching antibiotics or tractors or something.

I liked both, they should be combined. Maybe using your officer pool to build new tech teams.

A "Best of Both Worlds" system would probably be tech teams just being specializations that you attach to a project while leadership determines the overall speed (That'd be great for Kaiserreich, since it's a bitch to balance the tech teams of stuff like the ACW), or have them be upgradeable somehow.

Has there been a discussion about multiplayer? I was playing EU4 with a friend as the same country and I thought it would be a fun thing to have in HoI4. It allows new players to see whats going on and only focus on one thing such as the eastern front or something. It can become a clusterfuck if you try it with more than 2 people however. I thought it might be interesting to split up functions like one person plays the head of state and he can choose production/diplo/tech etc. and distribute troops to one or more generals, it would emphasize teamwork and coordination. At the very least I hope we don't go backwards with multiplayer features a la TW:Rome 2. I was really impressed by the jump in stability from EU3 -> CK2 -> EU4 and hope the trend continues. Has there been any word whether there will be EU4-related news at Gamescom? I remember reading a quote that the next EU4 expansion was going to be larger than any expansion they've done yet for either CK2 or EU4 so it'd be interesting to find out about that.
