Lumberjack Bonanza posted:Could be she has depression or has dealt with suicidal thoughts in the past. I know it's a bit rough for me any time someone goes into detail about a suicide. I wouldn't use the word "triggering", but it's been a little tough for me as someone who's dealt with both. However, I've been pleasantly surprised by the number of friends who have posted suicide helplines, offered a private ear, and posted general "you're not alone, even if you feel you're at rock bottom I still care about you" etc type things. A little sad that it takes a big suicide to bring it out, but progress is progress.

How do you get to that level of mental division? I mean, I'd never date a porn star anyway, but if I did it sure wouldn't be a serious, long term relationship because I couldn't expect someone who gets paid to have sex with other guys to be in a monogamous relationship. The two are mutually exclusive. Also, how is your roach-infested toilet paper hellhouse?

A lot of the nurses I know believe in something totally unscientific: vaccines cause disease, ph balanced water is crucial, etc. My theory is that being a nurse correlates with having an inferiority complex about one's intelligence. Doctors are always bossing them around, and they have to do whatever the doc says. Patients frequently act like they know more than nurses. So these "hey, I'm a MEDICAL NURSE and I know the truth about vaccines," attitudes are a dual compensation for feeling under-intelligent and for not being listened to, ever. All of a sudden, they're the smart ones who know the TRUTH and all these parents look up to and listen to them.

We don't care as much is some random person says vaccines cause autism, or cancer can be cured with the right diet, but when a medical professional says it, it sticks out more.

Tons of trolls were doing their best to trick her family into opening the photos through email etc. Last I heard every family member except her father had seen it, but maybe they finally "got" him by now, I don't know. Matt Walsh is an absolute piece of poo poo and despite having a one strike mute policy on anyone who shares anything from his blog, it keeps slipping through. He writes these smug, inflammatory articles meant to provoke a response, and then when people react angrily he goes and cries to other super-conservative christian news sites about the "hateful" responses he gotten . It's just the worst.

Someone has to make a deliberate choice to do that. And they do so because it seems easier than dealing with their depression. Please tell me more about suicide and how its the lazy option only picked by people who just don't feel like "dealing with their depression". Because it's just so hard and suicide is just so easy. Seriously, people like you have zero understanding of depression. It's not feeling a little down or sad. It's not something you just deal with and then get back to being your happy self. It is crippling and changes the way you think. People with suicidal ideation aren't lazy, selfish fucks. They literally believe that suicide is the only solution. They don't think others would care if they killed themselves because they are loving depressed. That's the nature of the goddamn disease.

That it's not "easy" as it were, but "better/easier" than trying to continue on through the depression. The problem is when people say its 'avoidable' or 'the easy way out' and things like that, it's almost always used to blame the victim for what has happened and painting them to be a bad guy when they are neither there to explain, nor in fact capable of thinking like a 'normal' person if they were. It's very dismissive and vastly over simplifies something incredibly important and poorly understood. And almost always an opinion put forward by someone with little to no experience of it themselves. Unfortunately having depression doesn't qualify you to assess and quantify medical conditions and experiences. Lets just avoid this discussion and laugh at people who have done something to deserve it in some way, instead of arguing about whether Robin Williams found it easier to hang himself than face another day. I'm super bummed already, I want to see people make terrible spelling mistakes and look stupid on social media. Edit: Wrong I guess. Lethemonster has a new favorite as of 00:54 on Aug 14, 2014 |

GIANT OUIJA BOARD posted:I have depression, but I'm actually seeking treatment for it. Thanks though. I have no idea what degree of depression you have, but if you are actually clinically depressed, then you should know what the mental illness does to a person. People become so depressed that they physically and mentally do not have the energy to get help. I've seen patients so depressed they developed bed sores because they couldn't bring themselves to roll over. And it wasn't because they were lazy! They do not think rationally about themselves and their prospects. People who are suicidal don't just hold a bottle of pills in one hand and a phone number to a hotline in the other and go "ugh, treatment sounds like it would take awhile. Eh, better kill myself". They don't weigh the pros and cons of suicide before doing it and decide it's easier. Often, it's an impulsive act brought about by a several depressive episode. Again, when a person is not thinking rationally. It's why men are more likely to successfully kill themselves; they suicide in ways that don't allow for time to reconsider or be discovered.
