A story driven narrative, evolving around events of Charlemagne. Also you can customize your kingdoms somehow. :jerkbag:

Nobodies joking - the Ckii announcement was literally

-100 extra years
-CHARLEMAGNE
-customisable kingdoms (with no explanation how this works)

What does customisable kingdoms mean? I imagine there's more to it than "rename a kingdom and pick where it starts" but I have no idea what else it could involve.

If it means something like "King and empire level titles get unique "traits" like characters do", that would be loving cool.

As it stands with the information we have right now, I'm not that impressed. I'm quite happy with the lay of the land in CK2 right now, I just want more depth to what we already have rather than just continually expanding the map and the timeline.

Hey, let's try to figure out ways this might be good so that we can have our hopes properly raised and dashed later. Here's my go.

"Customizable kingdoms" means that kingdoms and empires can now have their own unique forms of laws and quirks. Remember how the Byzantine Empire can revoke ducal titles for free because it's the Byzantine Empire? Like that, but expanded. A system of different relationships between vassals and lieges beyond simply how many men they're supposed to contribute, much like our current succession laws, will be put into place. You can have anything from the organized governments of the Byzantine Empire where rulers are imperially-appointed governors, more traditional feudal relations like the French kingdoms, to the decentralized and barely-contained chaos of the Holy Roman Empire. The great blobs are no longer distinguished solely by their name, color, religion and dynasty - they now fundamentally differ in how they operate internally.

My completely uneducated guess would be that you aren't reliant on historical kingdoms anymore - perhaps once you have enough land/de jure duchies, you can declare yourself King. I can't see this being worth $20.

Question for Sam or anyone else involved in "After The End" mod.

My name is Chris Livingston, and I write a weekly mod column for PC Gamer. I'd like to feature the beta of this mod for my column this weekend.

I wouldn't normally ask first, but I wanted to check with someone in this instance since:

a) The dropbox has apparently been overwhelmed by traffic
b) I haven't seen this beta posted elsewhere, like in the Steam workshop, moddb, or the Paradox forums, so I'm not sure if you want the general public playing it yet

I'd have PM'd someone if I saw a way to do that, but I don't. Anyway, please let me know! I've covered a bunch of different full-conversion CKII mods and this one looks really interesting.

This would be incredible. It also seems like it would possibly justify a $20 price tag in a way the rest of the features don't, so I'm going to pin my hopes to the existence of something akin to it.

I'm also very curious about how a more narratively based Charlemagne campaign could work without handing the player event troops and free casus belli like crazy, as that would be pretty boring. Seems like it might have plenty of applicability for modders at least.

Charlemagne went to war every campaign season for over 30 successive years. The truce mechanic being 10 years would utterly ruin the rapid expansion he had.

I'm hype based solely on the price point alone, Paradox hasn't missed on a price point yet. So if they feel it's worth 20 bucks it's probably worth 20.
