race tires on road are a great idea, ask me!

It's from Malaysia in 1998 I think, 250cc MotoGP race.

Those things are stupidly dangerous. My dad broke his back in three places on an ATC. Honda is still facing lawsuits about those drat things! I had one when I was 14 or so. Some of the best times of my life was on that deathtrap.

One of my buddies with whom I grew up in south Arkansas just got a Big Red 250 and has already looped it and hurt himself. Riding quads starts about the same time as walking down there, but I gather that having skills on a quad actually handicaps you on a three wheeler. Literally handicaps you.

They put the two wheels at the wrong end. Make it a tadpole design with the two wheels upfront and one wheel in back.

Are they lethal purely because they seem like they'd corkscrew at the slightest hint of having to turn? Or is it because they wheelie so effectively?

They're probably about as good at taking corners as, well, one of these:

Would be my guess.

also 3wheelers aren't as dangerous as you guys make them out to be, you just have to be not-a-complete-idiot. We've had them my whole life (honda big reds, mostly) and were riding them around since age 10 or so. None of us died! My cousin did roll one down a steep embankment sideways once but that was his own fault

Bicycles are also ok in this forum. Just had a go on this foldable contraption. It didn't go disney deck chair on me, but it did prove strangely hard to countersteer. My theory is that the small diameter wheel doesn't really shift the balance as much as it makes the bike go in the direction you steer. I will add that I wasn't going that fast but I will stress that I am satisfied with the results and will not pursue higher speeds to test when counter steer kicks in.

Not for me to brag about falling over at crazy speeds, I'll just casually mention that the brake discs are still glowing when it's back in the pit.
