Remember how people were complaining about how when white people show up to a black protest, it suddenly becomes all about the white people?

I've forgotten most of the secret gang signals I learned on the white suburban middle school playground but what makes those guys Bloods besides matching Cardinals hats? They show up repeatedly in these pictures as part of a larger group of young black men that isn't nearly so color-coordinated. The guy with the purple bandana is obviously with them, like he couldn't find a red one? What about the guy in the navy blue Cards hat, or the olive drab one?

In the notices for solidarity protests they ask people to wear a red ribbon, cloth or bandanna in a show of solidarity.

Dr. Arbitrary posted:Remember how people were complaining about how when white people show up to a black protest, it suddenly becomes all about the white people? It's amazing how goons can miss the point consistently, there are white people in photos of the civil rights movement, there were White organizers so maybe just maybe you might be missing a point here? Speaking of white people co-opting the movement the National Moment of Silence went ok here in San Antonio. The Brown berets provided security(they were great....noticing a trend here) it's was 99 degrees outside so that was horrid be we managed. The organizers were a nice bunch of women from Battleground Texas. There we some white people from out of state belonging to the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA (who I was told are a thorn in local protests I swear next protest I will personally chase these assholes off) Who made it impossible to chant no justice no peace because they would always add so,gently caress the police (no one chanted that part)and generally took over the chant. One of the people from the RCP got up gave a speech which started off nicely about the victims of police brutality and shifted to her shilling her stupid website and calling for revolution when the protest was stated multiple times on the facebook page to be non-violent. Another lady not affiliated with them but just as stupid, started a song but when someone noticed all the black and latino people were standing in the back or leaving ,they tried to bring up the fact that the people standing up and talking we all white (it wasn't like that at the start) singing lady started to argue back but the lady who brought it up just dropped it. I was so pissed they totally killed the mood and I'm a socialist but I didn't come there to sell stupid loving newspapers or take over a protest and turn it into a recruitment thing. Photos We have decided your movement needs a revolutionary push (look at some of the faces) lady on the left of stereotypical D&D revolutionary with glasses is gently caress the police lady. Other than that it was great and they've said they're going to try and organize other stuff so we'll see. SirKibbles fucked around with this message at 12:10 on Aug 15, 2014 |

There was a National Moment of Silence down here in McAllen, but I didn't go. Pictures look like it was about 20 mostly-teenagers on a gazebo talking in a circle. Guess some places can't be hotbeds of unrest.

The shooting case is going to be the main focus, but the departmental actions after will get an insane amount of scrutiny in the next few years as the debate over police militarization continues. I can't imagine a more apt case study for the drastic overreaction of local PD in response to a local protest movement. Literally, all it took was pulling local PD off the streets and the chaos evaporated overnight. pentyne fucked around with this message at 13:35 on Aug 15, 2014 |
