What I find interesting is that very little has changed in terms of fashion since about 1997. I mean I guess there's hipsters but they could be considered the child of Grunge kinda.

the Gaffe posted:You just stopped hanging out with "young" "hip" people, get with the times OLD MAN. You might be right but consider the difference between 1994 and 1997 in popular media. The difference is huge. It was around this time too that having your pants droop started becoming popular, it still seems to be today. Many of the specifics have changed, but the broad tendencies are still the same.

the Gaffe posted:You just stopped hanging out with "young" "hip" people, get with the times OLD MAN. No, he's right. The fashion of 2014 isn't radically different from 1999 in the same way clothes from 1974 were radically different from 1959. There have been minor changes, but most things normal people wear day to day are pretty similar over the past 15 years.

Can anyone name my first bike? It was some 90s monstrosity that was supposed to be a bike disguised as a dirtcycle. It had a bunch of buttons hooked up to a thing on the handlebars that played motorcycle noises. There was a big plastic light attached to a plastic shield on the front of the handlebars and mud flap things over the grips. It was basically a bike weighed down with a shitload of plastic. Completely forget the brand/name though.

Hey, how 'bout some ZOOM BALL!? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PhOm2GUqQE I had the water balloon one as a kid, and it was surprisingly heavy when it was fully loaded. But seriously, what the hell? Zoom ball was the dumbest thing.

The OG Super Soaker (I think it was renamed the 50 once the other models started coming out) was always superior. They may not have held as much water, but they made up for that in portability and durability, and you could always buy extra water bottles that mounted on a special belt (and I want to say regular 2 liter bottles also worked). The 100 wasn't too bad, but anything bigger just got ridiculous as you could just outrun whoever was using one. The 25 was also garbage (even though it made a good backup weapon) because the bottle never sealed right so the pressure never built up properly.

I graduated HS in 2000, so I feel I was an extremely prime age to be a 90's authority. The 90's were pretty good imo and I enjoyed many things this thread is talking about. Also for those too young to remember, 9/11 changed society permanently and people knew it as it was happening, the whole social conscious changed in weird ways.

I obviously knew that it was a major event, but my dad immediately knew it was terrorism (which I had no real concept of) and his reaction made me realize it was more than just a "normal" big event. It was a very strange experience going through that day, even 3000 miles away, so yeah forgive us if we want to return to the who-gives-a-poo poo ways of the late 90s.
