They keep adding new synth engines to the Atmegatron https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=becxY5mYMcU I'm becoming more and more lured in.

As much as I'm in love with chiptunes, the aliasing on everything I've heard from the Atmegatron really turns me off. I really wanted to want one.

Looking to pick up a used Ipad G3. What are good apps/accoutrements? Gonna run Z3ta+ and Lemur on it for sure, need a minimum of a midi interface and an audio out. edit: My synth white whale is almost conquered. Managed to get a copy of unisyn running on my oasyspci mac (sadly, lost the usage of the oasyspci in the process). Now I have a functional patch editor going for the Asr-x pro. The thing, red with the blood from startyde's brother, now has max ram, updated o.s. and CAN....BE....PATCHED. Next paycheck, I'm going throw some good money after bad again and try to get the scsi/cf working so it has storage. So, now you may be asking why. Why invest so much time, money and frustration into such an obvious boondogle? Here is why; 1: handrolled transwaves. I love that crunchy wavetable sound and being able to make my own out of reified frustration and samples from robot cake farting porn is super dope. 2: Resonant filter. Let's assume for a second that you're me and that you have, for whatever stupid reason, fixated on the ensoniq MR hardware class. The only two instances of it that have a resonant filter are the Fizmo and the Asr-x. Though, now that I finally can actually patch it, I'm disappointed that the asr-x doesn't, at least not yet, sound as plasticky and strange as the fizmo filter. 3: Microtonal scales. In hardware there are, like, 2 things that support doing microtuning with a decent resolution, ensoniq MR stuff and the Marion synths. This is important to me because 12 notes is not really enough to be unlistenably dissonant in, except for the occasional MUSIC SHOULD BE FUN light project, everything should be in an exotic tuning, preferably Harry Partch's 43 tone scale. and, yeah, outside of software the only convergence of all 3 points is the Asr-x. Oddly, if I were to pick up an EXP-3 expansion card, the fizmo (sans arpegiator, knobs and vocoder) would be wholely redundant. Sizone fucked around with this message at 05:37 on Aug 19, 2014 |

Well seeing as iOS 8 is coming out soon with some neat poo poo that could be used real nicely with music apps, you probably don't want to get the 2 year old iPad.

Yeah, but I also don't want to spend more than 200$ for something that's mostly going to be for the wife to play video games and browse coupons with and for the baby to chew on and occasionally make baby beats with.

Between this, gadget, and zeta+ it's been a pain waiting until the new ipads come out in a few months before I dive into ios synth stuff. Working with Alchemy and Bazille I've become a fan of what "good" VST's can do, not to mention I've already been using my wife's mini ipad to start setting up a controller for my Kurzweil gear with this: http://iosmidi.com/. Really, nothing hardware wise is pulling me to get it right now except for the ipad, an A4, and for guitar a red panda particle and a gem 2g.

A track pretty much done. Need to figure out how to get record to trigger in Reaper when I push play on the sequencer to make syncing easier, record each track separately by pattern, loop and mix. I'll put up the STEMs after I record in case anyone wants to use mathematics and technology to drop some science. https://soundcloud.com/rid_labs/back-turned-to-the-future-raw Sounds are JX-3P, JX-8P, CZ-101, RS-7000 drums samples are some Casio MT-68 breaks, a little circuit bent MT-240, Bruce Haack and Logan's Run. 0dB posted:Got an MR Rack and the EXP-3 and was happy that I spent $200 where a FIZMO rack is $2000. I would avoid. The mini is at Target for $200 this week if you're in the states. It's literally a bite-sized ipad2 but is still on the roadmap for 8. I know it runs a hell of a lot smoother than my buddy's 3. On paper it's more powerful but it spends too many cycles drawing that screen. I bought two EXP-3 both glitching with bitrot before I found one that was 100%.
