Is the thread about building computers good for suggesting replacement parts as well as getting parts for an entirely new build? The power supply (at least, I hope it's just the power supply) went out on my desktop and all I need is something that'll work for a computer I put together 7 years ago until I can start buying parts for a new one bit by bit.

I would basically start parting out the new computer, buy the psu first, and use it in the old one as long as it provides adequate power. Buying a really low-grade filler one for the current computer would almost certainly just be a waste of money. Unless I'm misunderstanding what you want to do?

I was hoping to just buy a cheap filler one to tide me over, but replacing with a good one's probably the better option. If the price difference isn't huge I'll get a better one.

So I work at a cafe making burgers, salads and sandwiches. Pretty decent stuff, largely prepared from the ground up (we make our own beef patties, mayonnaise and so on) and presented very nicely. Definitely not a fast food joint. What should I put as my job title on my CV/resume? Despite working alone in the kitchen, I'm pretty sure "cook" or "chef" is an exaggeration, since I don't have any education or background in cooking, nor do I decide what goes on the menu.

Always always buy the best power supply you can because if that fails (or blows up) it will take the rest of your system with it. Check the PC building thread for current recommendations because not all PSU's are created equal.

Speaker/amplifier question: I own this this phono box: And these speakers: Is is possible to listen to LP's using these 3 components, or do i need some big rear end amplifier? Or is there any small amplifier that I can use?

My browser (Chrome) suddenly started autoplaying embedded YouTube videos in threads. How do I stop this? I think this is a new problem, but I can't really recall the last time I browsed threads with videos in the past, so maybe it's an old chrome update.

All you'll need is an RCA-1/8" TRS cable, which is one of the few things you should be able to still get at Radio Shack. edit: assuming that isn't the USB version of those speakers Penguissimo fucked around with this message at 15:29 on Aug 19, 2014 |

I always use Windows Media Player, but subtitles seem really finicky. Can you download subtitles for videos or does it have to come with the video? Also, is there a program that does this better than WMP? Thank you Gonzalez, and may you always be regular. N. Senada fucked around with this message at 16:29 on Aug 19, 2014 |

Also, is there a program that does this better than WMP? Pretty much any program is better than WMP, but best ones to try are VLC, Media Player Classic, and GOM, in roughly that order. VLC is great because (1) yes, you can play external subtitle files and (2) you can adjust in 50 millisecond increments the sync time. So if they appear too soon, just hit H (or J?) a couple times.

When you sign up you're allowed to put in a custom title. If you don't write anything, then you get the baby avatar. It's not a guarantee that their post is dumb, but at least you know they are bad at paying attention.

Tiggum posted:Disable embedded videos and use YouTube Link Title instead. This, this a hundred times this. But there's an updated version on greasyfork that fixes whatever the hell changed on youtube's end a few weeks ago. Greasemonkey is the greatest thing to happen to web browsers since the introduction of tabs -- you get to customize how various web pages look and act. Fix your pet peeves, put in new functions. There are already a billion useful scripts out there, and it's not too hard to figure out how to write your own. Firefox users, you'll have to install the Greasemonkey add-on first, but I think Chrome supports greasemonkey scripts natively now, so go nuts.

I'm not sure where to post these, so I'll try here - if there is a better thread, let me know. 1. My wife just got a new moto g to replace her old galaxy blaze, and the tmobile sim card was too big so we had to have tmobile send us a new micro sim card. What is the best and easiest way to transfer her tmobile contacts to the new phone? Will hitting the "merge with google" under contacts tranfer all her tmobile contacts to google contacts? 2. My contacts are just a total mess. They are a bunch of google and google+ contacts, many with several entries for one name. Is there any kind of app or program I can use to help me clean these up?
