They're actually just multiple normal skills stitched together. And I suspect the "special" boffs aren't actually using the existing boff system, though I have nothing to prove it. Cryptic's hinted in the past that the BOFF system and bridge officer skills and traits are a horrible kludged-together mess behind the scenes, which is a big part of why they've been redoing as much of it as possible.

Sub-Level 10 someone was trying it last night and spent 15 minutes doing one patrol, but that was in the Miranda. Once you get the first level 10 ship, it's probably not as bad. I'm going to make a pair of new chars (Klank and Fed) and run the respective regions mapping out each patrol and what it is (If they don't change from system to system). Seems that Patrols even with doing them solo would be faster than the majority of missions that have you running back and forth not shooting for 15 minutes. Plus no cutscenes. EDIT: Turns out there is a list of Patrols: http://sto.gamepedia.com/List_of_missions#Miscellaneous Thronde fucked around with this message at 18:31 on Aug 20, 2014 |

Honestly, once one has done the fed/kdf/rom stories once for shits and giggles, they shouldnt have to be endured again for alts being leveled up. Unless you are into that sort of thing.

That may have been me in the Miranda. I stumbled into what I think was a patrol. My fed character just passed level 10 last night while my klinker is 30-something. But my fed has a fire extinguisher now. Also, how difficult or expensive is it to get a Mirror Qin raptor?

I'm running through it right now. Probably best bet is start patrols at 15 and run it up from there. I'm not sure how the levels play out, but the Cardassian stuff pays out 2300 experience per mission.

For me the annoying thing is that once you've done them all, you then have to go back and do certain ones again at max level to get the higher level items. Making you do some missions at least two (sometimes THREE or FOUR times! looking at you 2800) per alt.

The superstars who've played a great deal know the ins and outs of what does and doesnt need to be run again for alts. I'm trying to figure out the best path to take for future alts I want to grind to 50 that maximizes leveling speed while also getting all the needed bits for progress. Szcwczuk posted:How much of a pain in the dick is it to get 4 fleet ship modules? It's not a pain in the dick. If you feel like it, you can just buy them off the exchange. There's a dev blog up on the level cap increase. http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/6009103-raising-the-level-cap Notably, you don't spend skill points but instead have a talent tree deal from 50-60, which is good but seems like the laziest option considering how poo poo the current skill system is. Even better(?) it sounds like you can basically dump expertise into it indefinitely to get every talent in the tree even after hitting the cap. Soviet Commubot posted:It depends on the ship, some are two, some are one. EDIT: Wait, I forgot the Obelisk. That's a weird outlier case since it's a 2 fleet modules for a non-fleet ship, since the fleet version's from the Lobi store. Asimo fucked around with this message at 21:03 on Aug 20, 2014 |

Szcwczuk posted:How much of a pain in the dick is it to get 4 fleet ship modules? Whatever you do, don't buy fleet modules direct from the Zen store. Modules are about 9.4 million EC on the exchange right now, for the same price you could buy four keys and sell them on the market for 2.6 million each. You'd have an extra million left over. In fact, save up for a ten pack of keys and have almost enough EC for three modules.

Mogomra posted:It's not a pain in the dick. So to buy the retrofit it's 2000 zen and at 166 dil per zen it would take me ~40 days just to refine the 332,000 dil required. or Buy the romulan duty officer packs and sell them on the exchange for about 8 mil ec each. 45,650 dil per taking about 6 days per or 24 days for all 4. or Buy master keys and sell them for about 2 million EC and at 20,750 dil each and needing to buy about 6 of them this would take me 15 days. or Pay $20 get the FSM's with EC Did I miss anything? All the options that don't require money takes a really long time when you're newish to the game and don't have multiple alts all hitting the dil cap every day. Unless I'm missing something. edit: Unguided posted:Whatever you do, don't buy fleet modules direct from the Zen store. You can also earn and spend credits through every other means you earn credits in the game too. 40m's a lot (especially since they nerfed they gently caress out of the sale price of space drops) but it's hardly unachievable.

Asimo posted:To the best of my knowledge, every fleet ship is either 1, 4, or 5 fleet modules. It's one if there's an endgame retrofit c-store version that you own, five if it's a ship with a unique innate ability (like the B'rel's improved battle cloak, the Excelsior's transwarp, or the Gal-x's lance), and four for everything else. I remembered reading somewhere that at least some of the 5 module ships only discounted to 2 modules rather than 1 but maybe I'm wrong.

That was another thing I was asking about before, As far as earning EC the things I've found aren't super efficient. Granted I'm new and have yet to really dive into the exchange (not that I have much capital for it) but my options for EC so far have been explained as: Daily farm mission from the foundry, about 500k EC a day as loot will stop dropping after a while due to some cap on loot drops. Buy keys or, right now the romulan duty officer packs and sell them on the exchange. I already went over how long that would take.
