Okay, I still don't like her, but I will give her props for going through with it. Having a big bucket of ice water dumped on you is not pleasant, so kudos for her doing it. I really hope Hillary and McCain do it too.:allears:

I thought he meant that she technically qualified for minority status based on how much of her recent ancestry was hispanic- when I was applying for scholarships, I could not apply for one for Native Americans since you had to be at least 1/16th and I was 1/32nd (or something like that).

Every since she came into the media spotlight, she has been seen numerous times in public without her wedding ring. It's not unusual for her at all. I've always thought the right should be trolled for it because of their fetish for useless symbolism but, there's no point in it now. Hopefully she will fade completely out of view and relevance in the near future.

Wasn't there a thing about her and that a while ago? Maybe she just doesn't like wearing them. I know I hate wearing anything on my wrists or fingers.

I don't understand the whole "BURGER KING GOING TO CANADA TO SPITE OBAMA"-talk.

Isn't Canada pretty socialist? Won't said company have to pay more in taxes in Ontario than they would in Florida (no state income tax). I don't get it really.

Also as an American let me state for the record I am not for this. Leave Tim Hortons alone.

I always thought that America's effective tax rate was actually fairly low, even though our nominal tax rate was fairly high. Don't only something like a third of all American corporations pay any taxes at all?

Yeah, but the effective tax rate varies wildly depending on how many credits, deductions, and subsidies your business is eligible for. At any rate, corporate tax is obsolete in the age of globalism. Might as well set it to zero and tax the poo poo out of personal wealth.

America's effective tax rates are only low for companies that can pay lobbyists to get them tax exemptions.

I'm sure Burger King qualifies there. Hell, it's barely even an American company as it is.

quote:

Burger King, often abbreviated as BK, is a global chain of hamburger fast food restaurants headquartered in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The company began in 1953 as Insta-Burger King, a Jacksonville, Florida-based restaurant chain. After Insta-Burger King ran into financial difficulties in 1954, its two Miami-based franchisees, David Edgerton and James McLamore, purchased the company and renamed it Burger King. Over the next half century, the company would change hands four times, with its third set of owners, a partnership of TPG Capital, Bain Capital, and Goldman Sachs Capital Partners, taking it public in 2002. In late 2010, 3G Capital of Brazil acquired a majority stake in BK in a deal valued at US$3.26 billion. The new owners promptly initiated a restructuring of the company to reverse its fortunes.

So it's majority Brazilian owned as things stand now anyway.

I honestly don't get why it needs to bother with this inversion. I'm amazed it is paying any taxes at all to begin with.

I believe the issue is when you try to get money out of the company, not any taxes that the company itself pays.
