The way it coordinates with Spotify is probably the worst. That could be the new Spotify app but I think it's the way it works on the Windows phones. I don't have a problem with battery life. But I can't wait to get rid of this thing and find something I can use and enjoy. I've essentially quit using social media, so I may go back to a drat flip phone. I'm curious, did you pick the phone randomly or did you look into any other options?

Anyone using Developer Preview GDR1 after Cyan having problems? My phone will randomly get to a state where the power button will no longer turn the screen off. And if the screen times out, then I can't get it to turn back on again. All I can do is soft reset to get back into my phone. And if I shut the phone down normally it restarts by itself for some reason. This is a Lumia 925. I wiped the phone with a hard reset and the problem returned about 24 hours later. I might have to use the Nokia software recovery tool and see if removing the GDR1 update helps.

I had that issue with Foulplay, my PSN app. Whenever it ran, at some point, the same thing your describing would happen. After resetting my phone many times, I figured out it had to be that app (since it was the first thing I would install, and only when I ran that app would this end up happening, but looking at the code there was nothing obvious I could see that would cause something like that. I thought it was a memory leak, but it did not seem to be. I had to pull it from the store because I still don't know why it's doing that. Assuming you're not running that app (and if you are, stop, that's the problem), then it could be that some other app you have is doing the same thing. I hope so, because that means I'm not totally crazy and other people are hitting this issue too.

I've never used that app, but now that you mention it, I didn't notice any problems until after I installed the NFL Fantasy Cheat Sheet app. So I've rolled back the OS the the last official version and left that app out of the install. Hopefully that does the trick because if it happens again I'm sure the resolution will be a pain in the rear end.

Just got my 630 in from Cricket and while it's an awesome little budget phone, it puts off some serious heat on the back panel. That normal? edit: Actually it's probably just from all the syncing and stuff. Regardless, for virtually free, this is a decent drat phone! Got a 635 today, definitely appreciating the lighter heft after two years with the 920. The on-screen navigation buttons are nice, except the touch feedback vibration is a little too intense. I had to turn it off but I wish there was a lighter setting. Never bothered me on the 920. Also it is pretty cool that the settings sync includes your recurring alarms.

Gives me a reason to turn my 1020 back on. Hopefully it just works. -- VLC for Windows Phone 8.1 was delayed. I have not checked in on their project for a few months, so I figured that I had some free time this weekend, I checked out a new build and looked in to see if there was anything I could do. It would not compile. Also, they don't have anything set up for handling background audio. And the views are incomplete. To be fair to them, it was all done by one guy, so I can't fault them. It won't compile because they are rushing to get the Windows 8.1 release out, so stuff that should not be seen by the Windows Phone solution is turning up there. And the code they do have for this and Windows 8.1 is much much better then when I last worked on it, but they still have a long way to go. If any of you were waiting for it... yeah, don't expect it any time soon. I am trying to convince them to release a video only app, since that portion is pretty much there. So we'll see how that goes.

When are new Nokia phones supposed to be announced? Should I be waiting? Or just get the One?

Microsoft should be announcing the Lumia 830 and 730 on September 4th at the IFA trade show. They won't be quite as high end as the One though there are rumors of another high end flagship Lumia phone for later this autumn.

Starting to ponder picking up a 930 rather than wait myself. Catching myself caring too much whether a phone is 6 months old or not. Will wait for the Microsoft announcements to see if they have any info on the next flagship first though.

I keep thinking/hoping that waiting will be worth it because the next flagship phones will be set up for Threshold which will have so many awesome new features and capabilities...but then I remember it's Microsoft and to never be excited about anything.

My iPhone was stolen today and it doesn't look like I'll be getting it back. I picked up a Nokia 635 to roll with until the iPhone 6 comes out. I don't know if maybe there's a specific thread's for WP apps, but I can't find it so I'll ask here: Is there a good solution for browsing the forums on this phone that I'm missing? Right now I'm going between IE and the Awful app (the one with the :get out: frog icon), and they both seem to have pretty severe drawbacks. Text in IE gets too small to read in portrait mode, and Awful app has really janky scrolling, starts at the bottom of the page when you change pages, and doesn't remember your thread after switching back into it from a different app (although maybe that has more to do with the 635's aggressive process / memory management?) Is the other app (the one with the grenade icon and the Japanese text; the only other SA app in the store as far as I can tell) any better? It says it will steal my password and autoban me if I log in with it...

Had the same problem with Awful, youhaveto change settings in your control panel on the forums but can't remember which ones. There is a thread for it but apparently the app has been abandoned.

You can try the reading mode in IE11 once the page fully loads. It's also not optimal but works pretty well in general when the page doesn't reflow well or text is too small. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biSIO1w4aLE I use the "Awful. beta" app, it works well enough for me. I too just got cyan on my 1020 with the DP, it found my fitbit and is syncing nicely now. OldPueblo fucked around with this message at 06:06 on Aug 28, 2014 |

The Lord Bude posted:Yes, the other app is much better, and it's the only other app. In particular it's the only one that works properly if your phone is on 8.1 Hell yeah. This app works great. Navigation and legibility are much better. Maybe Awful. looks a little nicer, but for whatever reason (WP8.1, the 625 hardware, or the app itself) this other app is the way to go for me. It's got that nice little something I like to call 'basic usability.' Although I've already noticed that scrolling back up through text that's already above the top of the screen when you're typing a reply doesn't work very well. Guess I can't complain about free, though.

Got my hands on an HTC One4Win for my sister to replace her randomly shutting off 8X. This thing is definitely in the lead as far as top Windows Phone in concerned. Compared to my mom's Icon, the overall feel and design with the metal construction does feel really nice and solid, and while the camera is not better, it works well. What is nice is the Cyan update is already installed so everything works great with the DotView case and little changes like tap to wake. Also that HTC TV app is actually really slick. I never knew we had 1/2 the channels and shows playing on Dish lol. Boomsound with the new Spotify app also sounds and works great. I also can say I like the windows phone Spotify app layout better than the Android one. Now if Sprint would stop being stupid and also pick up the dang phone they might actually sell well since it wouldn't be a budget crap Spec Windows Phone. From poking around on other sites it appears that Wifi calling itself doesn't break entirely on updating to WP8.1, but texts over wifi calling stop working. My guess is that's the holdup. Wifi calling on my 521 with WP 8.0 is already pretty buggy, and frequently doesn't let go after I lose wifi unless I reboot the phone. It works really well if you have strong Wifi in an area of zero reception, but will often choose terrible wifi over moderate and more-reliable cellular signal. Also MMS is nonfunctional when Wifi calling is enabled, but it's been that way since the beginning.

Didn't they (some really long time ago) talk about 8.1 or something having a way for 3rd party applications to integrate properly with call receiving, and directly into the call placing interface too? And that at least Skype would be doing that.

So I noticed that Cortana now appears in the start menu, even if it's not in your region. So what happens if you click on it? First, it said I can't use this language. Also, the settings string is not translated but whatever. After changing the voice language back to English, I get this. So now the region and language are not supported. It's better than before, when Cortana was just hidden from view. I would still like Japanese voice commands to be fixed though. On a happier note: Even though I hate that IE has to use webkit functions for mobile, sites I use now actually work better. Oh, and I should have a new build of Awful Forums Reader up this weekend.
