Let's not forget Bajaha's Turbo Veloster fiasco (starts back on page 24). They told me on the phone it was on lot, when I got there they said they never claimed that. Great way to make a sale, lying about the car! Ricart Ford in Columbus that gave me the major runaround. Their website said they had a few FiST, but of course they "hadn't arrived yet". When I told them what I wanted, they insisted I tried the only FoST they had, a 2013. I took it for a spin and made the mistake of saying I like it, but I really wanted to try out a FiST before making any decisions. They ignored that last part and jumped right into the 'monthly payment' game, which basically amounted to they saying I would be paying the same per month (only for you know, something like 12 extra months). Oh yeah, I forgot to mention they wanted considerably more for a '13 FoST than what my 14 FiST ended up costing. Eventually, there argument melted down to 'It costs to drive a sporty car, if you don't want to pay that you might as well go with a base model Fiesta' (which of course they had). That was the last straw and I left. I also must have made them pretty mad, as they didn't even give me the daily phone call follow-ups like most dealerships do. It's a shame, as I would have liked to tell them about the bitchin' deal I got on a '14 FiST across town

Still haven't had a week of problem free ownership, although more recently it has been small annoyances than actual mechanical/electrical problems. Most recent is that we still don't have replacement floor mats, and the two centre vents are broken so you can't adjust them on the vertical axis. Otherwise, as previously stated, it's got a nice bit of pep, nothing that'll blow you away but it's enough to make it feel pretty fun. The twin scroll turbo spools really quick, no appreciable lag from what I can tell. Haven't removed my magnetic flap in the intake yet, but I've unhooked the recirculating tube to go from a recirc to atmospheric bov and the noises are pleasant even putting around town. The 6 speed feels pretty nice, no complaints there. The onboard trip computer is hilariously optimistic with regards to mileage and the real world highway fuel consumption kinda sucks. The factory tires, the kumho solus kh25 I think, are garbage in my opinion, already replaced with dedicated summer and winter sets. The 3rd door is really useful for loading the trunk for large items and makes it a lot easier to have people in the back occasionally, there's a surprising amount of room in the back (but not headroom unfortunately) but as stated, not recommend for regularly toting around 4 people. General comfort is nice, it's fairly quiet on the road, interior looks and feels pretty nice for what it is. Sunroof is a little bit of a tease since it's big but doesn't open very far. Styling is hit or miss but I like quirky cars and this scratches that itch, the LED taillights are pretty cool looking as well as the projector headlights (not HID though ) Overall it's pretty nice hot hatch and if it wasn't for all the lemon related problems we've had, it would have been a perfect little exciting commuter.

VW has 0% financing for ~84 months~ on some models here (tiguan especially, they are trying to clear those out like mad before the redesigns show up), but sadly the GTI is not one of them. I think it's 3.9%, ugh.

Where did you end up getting the FiST? I test drove a '12 STi hatch at Germain Ford and they treated me pretty good. Kept me for a few minutes to work up an offer sheet for my s2000 and show me some potential monthly payments but didn't go for the hard sell at all.

8ender posted:What kind of mileage are you getting on the highway? The Veloster is specced similar to my car and I'm getting 32-25mpg consistently. The absolute best I've ever gotten was 36.9 mpg, which was nice, but the usual highway mileage is closer to 27 mpg. When I make a trip down south, my mileage goes down further to about 25/26 mpg when I'm going closer to 75 mph. In the city I'm putting around at 23 mpg to 27 mpg. The trip computer loves to display around 36 mpg on the highway and 31 mpg city. The gearing seems fine, it's not screeming at some ridiculous rpm at the higher speeds thanks to 6th, I was really just expecting a little better but it's not terrible mileage so I can live with it. Hell, the Baja with it's 2.5l turbo motor, my lead foot, wighing in at around 3600+lbs, and the aerodymanics of a brick manages to get 28 mpg on the highway and about 18/19 in the city. Best I ever saw on a tank was going through BC, managed to hit 39 mpg. The 2012 Civic coupe, before it was totaled, pulled off 33 mpg in the city and around 40 mpg on the highway. I'm thinking the Veloster could really use a good tune, the exhaust tips get so sooty after even a short drive, and if you go hard on the throttle there's an appreciable amount of black smoke from all the fuel that gets dumped into the exhaust. Probably would really help with the mileage as this thing seems to run richer than the Subaru did before the tune. Alas, with my warranty woes already, I'm not really keen on voiding it since I know that the second its modified it'll blow just to spite me, knowing my luck with this car.

Wow, that's some crazy stuff going on with your fuel consumption. I use a fuel tracking app every fill up so I know exactly what numbers I'm getting, and you're getting terrible fuel economy. I've averaged 29ish mpg in 50/50 mixed city/highway driving on regular fuel. Sounds like you've got some serious problems. Hopefully I don't end up seeing the same issues!

I've been using the Fuelio app to track mileage and what I've been seeing hasn't been too great. I think I might bring up the poo poo fuel economy next time I'm at the dealer and see what they say. Mpg numbers are still annoying for me to grasp so I'm switching back to l/100km for the rest of this post. The rated fuel economy is City/Hwy/Comb 8.4/5.9/7.3 l/100km and the best I've ever gotten is 6.37 going 90km/hr on an Ontario hwy, something is not right, but no CEL and no other running issues other than a stumble on partial throttle in lower rpms (which is near to impossible for the dealer to witness since it's intermittent and they managed to miss persistent problems in the past, I've adopted the habit of getting video/photos of the issues before even taking it in) so I'll see what they say/do.

That's sadly how all cars work now. They're so finely tuned to get good numbers in the test cycle that real life consumption actually suffers for it. And it's not like you can use it as some kind of baseline comparison either, because sometimes a car that gets worse test numbers get better real life consumption. A nice example of this is the VW Polo TDi and TDi Bluemotion. The Bluemotion is the eco version, supposed to get much lower consumption and having a higher price because of it. The BM has an impressively low fuel consumption in the EU test cycle. The problem is that the regular TDi gets better real life consumption, making the Bluemotion the worst of both worlds!

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to tow with one, assuming the ST doesn't gave any funny exhaust placement over the normal one. FWIW I towed a 12 foot boat with a 1.4 diesel ford fusion that was packed to the roof itself (the rest of world one based on the last gen fiesta platform) and it was fine. Hilly single track roads, cruising at 70 mph, overtaking lorries on A roads, no problem. Ok, the last one was kinda sketchy considering that car as a 15 second 0-60 empty.

What about an 1800 lb kit car? (Plus an additional few hundred pounds for the trailer and other miscellanea.) I'm contemplating a Factory Five 818 build and I figured I should have a vehicle that can tow it if I need to have it moved before it is able to move under its own power. I'm currently driving an Impreza but I'm thinking about upgrading to a WRX in the near future if Subaru comes to their senses and makes a wagon version again. stump posted:I don't see why you wouldn't be able to tow with one, assuming the ST doesn't gave any funny exhaust placement over the normal one. Dunno about the FiST but the FoST has a center mount exhaust, which would complicate things. You can get a hitch for the Fiesta that is rated to 2,000 lbs, but I would highly recommend that you don't tow anything all that heavy for very long distances or at speeds. You get some serious trailer dynamics problems with a wheelbase that short. If you plan to tow your motorcycle more than say, four times a year for a total of 200 miles, I'd advise against doing it. The Fiesta will not be able to tow your 818* *you might be able to tow it but it will be extremely unsafe

The standard fare Fiesta hitches do not fit the FiST due to the rear bumper design. I would be ecstatic if a hitch was made that fit the FiST so I wouldn't have to clean my bicycle off to cram it into the car; a hitch mounted bike rack would be far easier. It's a minor quirk considering how fun the entire package is. My primary worry was suffering from a lack of space, but that really hasn't been an issue yet.

I'd prefer not to utilize one that grips in the rain rails since those designs also would affect how the doors seal. Apparently I spoke too soon; there is a hitch from Curt that works with at least one aftermarket exhaust: http://www.fiestastforum.com/forum/threads/2154-FSWERKS-exhaust-appears-to-work-with-Curt-hitch
