I absolutely cannot wrap my head around ever paying a dime for that kind of poo poo, like I've been playing games for over 20 years and there has not been a single freemium game where for a split second I ever entertained the thought of that not being an incredibly bad idea I feel like I'm taking crazy pills that such a majority of people willingly spend their money on nothing in order to get some lights to flash a certain way on their screen

A friend of mine worked for a facebook game company and his job (which he hated, then quit) was to appease the big roller clients of the mostly-free game. Some of them were doctors and lawyers, spent over $2000/month regularly, just on this loving facebook game.

p sure most of the income for those games comes from a fraction of the userbase, called "whales". They spend buttloads of money on this poo poo, probs because they have a legit mental issue (think gambling or sth) and loving can't stop themselves from doing it. the shittyy game somehow just takes priority over everything else in the messed up mind.

Many facebook games are just a much more readily-available outlet for gambling addictions. So I understand when I see people spending literally thousands a month on them. I dislike it more when I see loving DLC in children's games. Sorry, little Susie. I can concede that Gone Home falls into some category of game (although Myst is basically superior in every way) but holding it up as a benchmark of... something is insane. There's literally nothing about it that should give it that kind of status. That's while charitably saying that Gone Home is a real game that wasn't a tremendous rip-off.
