Really though, I just want to be friends with the Duwang Gang. :unsmith:

The third major arc of Jojo and everything after it are like an even crazier version of Persona before Persona was even a thing. You should check it out.

I'm pretty sure Persona was inspired by Jojo. Earlier Personas look pretty similar to Stands, and the whole series has that arcana thing that Part 3 has going on. The major differences between Personas and Stands is that Personas don't really have a gimmick or rule to them, and some people can have multiple Personas.

Also Jojo Part 4 is about a group of highschoolers who try to catch a serial killer in between their day-to-day lives.

(And I think the protag of Part 7 summons his Stand by blowing his brains out, but I'm still on Part 6)

Jojo inspired a lot of stuff, just look at Street Fighter for example. Guile has Stroheim's hair, Juri has a similar design to Jolyne, and Rose is straight up Lisa Lisa without the kicking rad shades.

I always heard about Jojo's Bizzare Adventure (fighting game, memes) but never read the manga. Since the anime was getting praise I started watching it and -

1) It's so, so good. Like it's very clearly based on a thing from the 80s but proud of it and cheesy as hell in the best possible way

2) The entire concept of Personas is literally Stands. As iconic as those are they don't actually pop up for all of season 1 (Parts 1 and 2 in the Manga) but even the way they fight in the Persona fighting game was based off the 90s Jojo's fighting game. You summon an inner force that fights for you and represents yourself, and they are based on the different arcana of the Tarot. The background stuff of Persona is literally a Jojo's plotline

Persona, at least at the start of the series, has a little more of a Jungian, Hero with a Thousand Faces vibe going for it. When it gets to P3 and onward, and the characters can't switch them around anymore, they feel a bit more stand-like.

Other than that, they are indeed very similar.

I think the creator is just really protective of it. Not without reason though, since the anime adaptations before the current one are all considered really bad. The movie made in 2007 was apparently so terrible that Araki stopped it from ever being made available.

All the previous anime adaptations have been vaguely ashamed of being super eighties and maximum fabulous. The new anime embraces it completely. It knows that Jojo has been owning consistently for like thirty years and just goes for maximum Jojo instead of trying to be something that is, by definition, less completely awesome.

Seriously, I've been a fan for years and I've tried unsuccessfully to get people into it before. Seeing everyone lose their poo poo over it now is alternately amazing and irritating (not because of any 'I liked it before it was cool' bullshit, more 'if you'd listened to me sooner, you could've enjoyed this poo poo before').

Allegedly, it was so bad, Araki grew to be very disillusioned by the first storyline of the series. He had to be convinced to let them adapt the story in the TV series.

I watched it with some friends around when it came out. You don't want to watch it. The scissors make me very squeamish, and Rise's rear end is one of the most terrifying and repulsive things I've seen in my entire life.

Aside from that, it's a really mediocre porno. Really uneventful past any instance if scissors or Rise's rear end,

We went from Persona 4 to JoJo to Persona 4 porno. The progression makes sense when you think about it.

So hey, I'll probably play Nocturne soon so tell me about Nocturne.

What they call Force (Zan) is actually Wind (Garu). This is important, because if you play through the game thinking that Zan is untyped damage, like what Force usually means, there is a midgame boss who will flatten you.

Also, whenever you reach a boss you can't beat, that's usually your cue to fuse a new team with different resistances.

Decide early if you want to build physical or magic with your MC. Physical is better for late-game, since Magic gets less effective as the game goes on, but Magic makes that early game hump easier to get over.

Zan isn't untyped. There have been enemies weak and resistant to Force since at least SMTI. Garu existing at all is a recentish development (it first showed up in Persona 1).

Every puzzle has an answer.
Force has never been untyped in SMT, but if you're coming from Baldur's Gate or something, I guess you might assume that it's nonelemental damage, like Magic Missile in DnD. Though I'm pretty sure you'd learn better the moment you saw the first demon status screen that said it was resistant...

Yeah, that's what I meant. Because I was dumb and didn't make the connection. :downs: I thought it was like an early version of Almighty. And then I started seeing Almighty damage and got really confused.

They actually did make it Almighty in Persona 1 and 2. So it'd probably still be a bit confusing if the first one you played was one of those.

Nah, P1 doesn't have Almighty at all. Zan is Force and Megido is Nuclear.

Edit: Wait, Zan is "Blast" while "Force" is used for the Elec/Nuclear/Gravity/Blast set of spells.
