well yes precisely. Clinton and Obama are both fairly technocratic therefore expert opinion influences them heavily therefore the lovely Washington Consensus is a problem.

Dude, you've never heard someone use the argument that "Hitler wanted the government to do a thing, and liberals want the government to do a thing, therefore liberals are Hitler?" Yeah, the Hitler comparisons died down a bit, but it was the message of the entire Tea Party movement before top he 2010 midterms! Glenn Beck became the most popular pundit in America for a while talking about how the FDA, EPA, public schools, and Medicaid are precursors to a second Holocaust.

Liberal in America is a catch all term. It can be used to describe far leftists all the way to certain types of center righters. Those Center righters are basically not republicans.

So liberals basically means anyone not republican.

Nah, once his approval rating dropped below 30 the script became that Bush failed because he was a big government liberal at heart, and the way forward was to elect a president who was a real conservative. It was the move that led to the saying "conservatism can never fail, it can only be failed".

Evidence of Bush's liberalism: Medicare Part D. The post-meltdown TARP and wall street bailouts. Signing an education bill co-written by Ted Kennedy, for God's sake! His failure to slash foreign aid and poo poo down the Departments of Labor, Energy, and Education.

To the rabid Tea Bagger co-workers I know, anyone less ideologically pure than Ted Cruz is a liberal. Any Republican who would DARE to "work across party lines," "reach across the aisle," acknowledge science, advocate altruism for refugee children, or, worst of all, do anything "bi-partisan" is absolutely a "lib" and MUST GO.

We've seen, I think for the first time just in the last election cycle, the word "Bi-Partisan" used in TV and radio ads as a pejorative. The first time I heard it, I sat in stunned silence because I honestly thought no party would ever go that far.

Then again, I never thought I see a GOP audience booing a gay soldier or cheering for the death of a young man who didn't have Health Insurance.

Ok now I'm loving depressed again.

Currently, we don't. State and local governments can still accomplish things sometimes but the federal government has been effectively shut off by a political movement whose entire platform is "No." Anything the government tries to do is literally the worst thing ever that will set the entirety of America on fire, cause the Earth to explode, and cause freedom to cease existing as a concept. The right literally held the world economy hostage to try and get their way over Obamacare.
