NSMBU/NSLU is a ton of fun. Reminds me of Mario 3 in that it is difficult and challenging and frustrating, but I cannot stop playing because this time is gonna be the time I beat the level/get all the star coins. If I didn't care about getting them so much, I could probably be much further along by now. As it stands, I'm just beginning to start world 4. This game really takes me back to that awesome Mario 3/Super Mario World era. Definitely a ton of fun. I'm glad I decided to play this before playing Mario 3D World. I find that I prefer the 2D Mario games better for some reason.

I wouldn't necessarily say you "need" those particular party members; I was able to conquer most of them using Shulk, Dunban and Fiora without any problems whatsoever, using a rather simple build, really.

Shelf Adventure posted:You'll have to import or use the European eshop. Australia is part of Nintendo of Europe, so you could buy locally. You are right though in the sense of god knows why you would want to buy locally with those prices. So in the end, importing UK versions or using the Euro eshop would be beneficial. And if you make a NNID while in Europe, you are pretty much stuck with it, because besides ringing up and having to do who knows what with customer service, there is no way to switch between the regional areas of your region. It's going to be a pain in the arse when I return to New Zealand at the end of the month stuck with an Australian NNID.

The puzzle pieces do nothing aside from unlock concept art and things like that, and I don't even think they contribute to the 100% completion stat. I find the Kong letters the hardest. The Kong letters are harder, I think, just because of the fact that if you die they reset and you have to regrab them if you didn't hit a checkpoint. The puzzle pieces, once you collect it that's it. You can die as many times as you want and it'll still be collected. Just as long as you eventually beat the level.

It's just a series of boss fights that you can take on with your friends if they're down, there's no in-game online functionality outside of that in my experience.

They also give you a little AI companion that can take care of the most basic stuff. Honestly I never felt the need to co-op in that game. It's fine, but the times I did it I didn't think it was more fun to play that way.

Is the total lack of dialogue a hallmark of the New / 3D World / Land series, or do you guys think that Nintendo has basically permanently banished dialogue from their Mario games? For example, if they made another Galaxy sequel, do you think they'd bring back the speech bubbles? I don't know which way I prefer. The dialogue in Mario games has always been pointless and I can't recall a single line from any recent Mario game. On the other hand, stripping 100% of the dialogue definitely changes the vibe of the game - I think it's one of the big reasons some people criticize 3d World as just feeling like a set of obstacle courses.

I also think that 3D World was criticized because it was released on the Wii U at the point it was released.

I recall reading that Miyamoto was strongly against everything they did with the story in Mario Galaxy 1. Which I think is a shame, that stuff was really sweet. I don't mind stripping it all away every once in a while, but I'd still like to see some sort of connective tissue again.

Miyamoto also insisted they pull the story and RPG elements out of Paper Mario Sticker star. I think he loving hates reading or something.

One thing I really like is how well visuals can tell a story without dialog. The opening for Super Mario 3D world introduces characters, establishes the plot, and importantly gives characters personality using little or no dialog. Since it's a basic story you don't really need dialog to elaborate on anything. Plus in the Mario series the main characters' voices are most iconic for short lines. Most of the actual dialog tends to come from side characters, or Bowser. I guess that makes Bowser the most well-spoken of the main cast?

Anyway, I'm down with less story in Mario main titles. Hated the story in Galaxy 1 and loved how much more straight forward Galaxy 2 was. Didn't even notice there weren't dialogues in 3D World. Side games like the RPGs should have dialogue, tho.

You know what, i'm feeling stupid today and i'll say this actually relates super good to how I want my Mario. I don't want some deep story that'll tie all ends and have Mario resurface from his darkest hour in a space opera, I want some porno plot, just an excuse that gives a context for the setting and just stays quiet while the gameplay happens.
