Went back quite a bit to find my answer but couldn't locate it. Anyone know where to find the early episodes I can download and put on my iPod? Just finished episodes 220-most recent and I'm trying to track down the earlier stuff. Google is not helping me. e: gently caress I'm an idiot. I skimmed the OP again and found it. Carry on.

One: bummer that guy who works for COPS got shot Two: even bigger bummer that they were going to film in my hometown, but that got cancelled because the guy died. A COPS episode set in my city would have been so right because I would probably recognize at least one of the perps.

I'm increasingly perturbed by Seth's lack of wider Hollywood fame. I've heard too much bad yet lucrative standup in my life for the man not not be able to instantly nail down an impression of a hot to trot mudslide-drunk teacher of of the year, "Team whatever!", to not have at least a small home in the hills and to be able to cover a year's worth of bills off a single 4-week sweep through the midwest-to-Missisipp tribal casino belt. Is his SAG still active? Surely we can muster up an aging social media goonswarm to #CastTheHerda & #CastTheHadda

I might be wrong, but I think I remember him saying his Sag was inactive?? On topic, everyone remember Seth's birthday is the 20th, and it might not be an HBO special... but I'm thanking him (and I encourage others to thank him) for all the entertainment UYD's given me by sending a birthday card with some mailbox money in it. Really though, I was gonna make a post about it a while ago but decided not to. But how do these loving fools make money off their show? I love them and want them to make money but they're not making it. Jah's said he hates acting so a sitcom is out, I don't know if I'm making this up or if it's true but I thought Seth hated when HBO filmed 120-130 because it gave him anxiety/it felt staged so a "live podcast" type show is out. Right now it seems the only avenue is if in the next 2 years they did enough live shows and brought enough people out where they realize they could make a ~living~ from it. Schneer and Letern would know what to do in this situation.

I think you are misinformed re: how hard it is for comedians to make money. Even those untalented hacks spent years in lovely open mics before hitting it big.

Binowru posted:I think you are misinformed re: how hard it is for comedians to make money. Even those untalented hacks spent years in lovely open mics before hitting it big. No I agree. I'm talking late-career cash-in Patton Oswalt poo poo where his whole act has gone to crap now that he does "GOSH IM A PARENT OF A CHILD NOW". Though he was nice enough to be open about it and incorporate that into his act. Or that fat cop guy from that show that may have actually be John Laroquette Sr.'s bus terminal sitcom where he got main stage and airtime at Just for Laughs Montreal and read through some lovely poo poo with punchlines like "Turns out, it was just two Injuns!" just because he was once on TV in a credited role. Seth has made his bones in front of a mic, even if it was just in a hot livingroom. I'm advocating someone smarter than me coming up with a system where he can earn like an established hack. edit: This rear end in a top hat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6RaIZ6uxTc 84 episodes worth of mailbox money coming to him. (Though maybe no chance of ever hitting the casino circuit given his love of Injun jokes.) Shadow Puppet Of fucked around with this message at 10:15 on Sep 6, 2014 |

We discuss this in some of the other threads on comedy. Some people are better "speakers" than "comedians" in that they are genuinely hilarious but it comes out better in long form conversations than stand up. Speaker is probably a bad term but you get what I mean. Seth and jonathon play off each other perfectly.

Something I've thought of before for a way for them to make money is if when they did live shows they professionally filmed them and sold the video for $5. I guarantee at least 80% of fans would buy it and if they filmed ~10 live episodes in a year they'd make a nice little chunk of change. I've also thought if they sold UYD box sets for "seasons" of episodes with photocopied note cards, dossiers, i don't even know... just stuff like that that fans would pay good money for that it'd be a profit. I think the best way to make money just strictly off their content though would be if someone like comedy central did an online series of animated segments and paid them for it.

You guys expect Jonathan or Seth to put in the effort? It's not that they can't, it's they aren't. They may eventually, but most likely not. Much less popular podcasts have ads, they have not for a long time. They would literally need a business manager if they wanted to make money cause they can't do it on their own. E: I mean it took two years for merch to come back and they don't run it

Goddamn Jennifer needs to get her poo poo together. e: Having "tell a friend" as your only business plan is obviously pretty bad, and Jah is a procrastinator, and Seth is super busy, but I feel like if there was even just ONE fan/friend of theirs with cash that was invested in Uhh Yeah Dude it wouldn't be that hard to help them out in making some money by setting up a business model and then hiring a couple people to execute it. Even just filming a live show would be a really minimal amount of effort way to make money, and it would definitely make a profit. Box sets is a completely different story, but yeah I guess I'm saying I agree haha. They just need someone to show them the path to $$$, and it's sad because these two people who are funny as gently caress and could be making a lot of money have spent every week for the last 8 years working their rear end off with nothing in return really other than us idiots calling the voicemail. roach cum puddle fucked around with this message at 16:25 on Sep 6, 2014 |
