I saw a Rockabilly band at my local pub one weekend, they sounded ok and it was a pretty fun set. Two weeks later I walk in and hear the same stuff, only this time I came in the back door so I didn't see the band, I went to the bar and ordered a pint and said "These guys back already?". "Nah", he replied, "That was Hot Rod 55, this is class of '59" I've never heard two bands sound so alike, it was uncanny. Bass player in the second band had bitchin' sideburns, that was the only way I could tell them apart, fuckers even dressed the same.

I like Brian Setzer, but he would probably have done amazing things in any genre. And while there are a lot of bands that sound the same, I'm always amazed by the number that manage to find new and surprising ways to sound bad. There was a band in Vancouver years ago called Model of Consciousness that sounded vaguely like if Godsmack brought on a live guinea pig as an additional vocalist. It was worse than actual Godsmack.

I didn't manage to get anything done with the gbs-caster today, been a bit bogged under. However.... Free super-strat! My friend found it in the back of their kids cupboard, apparently it's been there at least 9 years (it had pickups, they were just filthy so I took them off for cleaning, turns out they are DiMarzio's and probably worth more that the guitar itself. Victim number 2?

Make it a face guitar. You need really tacky fur for the hair. Also the mouth should be a speaker.

Yamaha makes some pretty nice higher end guitars, and you don't really see them anywhere. When I lived in Dallas I found a Yamaha tele style guitar that had 3 Dimarzio p90 sized super distortions in it just sitting in a trash pile near I house I was looking to rent. Took it home and cleaned it up and it was a pretty awesome guitar. Looked terrible though. It was like metallic pink and had a Khaler locking them. Ended up selling it for 500 bucks. Plenty of room on the truss rod cover for something stupid though. Dirt posted:That might actually be an awesome guitar with a decent setup. The neck pocket is tight as a nuns rear end, the neck is one of those skinny-ibanez types that everyone except me thinks is awesome, the routs are shielded and grounded and the body isn't too heavy. The tuners and pots are loving terrible though.

Yamaha really raised the bar about 10 years ago with their budget models those 112's could pass for a medium bracket guitar at the time.

I was visiting my parents last week and dug a long unfinished project out of the shed. I was working on 3 scratch built Telecasters all at the same time and this one ran into some finish issues so I hung it up. It's now nearly 3 years later and I decided I would just polish out the finish as is and finish it up. Thinking about re-routing the bridge for a high out put humbucker, slapping an esquire pickguard (no neck pick-up) on and having it be a shredder Tele. Open to other ideas though

The style of tuners, type of pots and the font on the headstock make me think it's from 1987. The guitar is loving FILTHY too, it smells almost putrid and every conceivable crevice is full of cat-hair. The fretboard is grimy as gently caress, it's been well played at some point and it's just oozing finger-grease.

Need to make one of those f-hole decals of a monkey grip/dick hole. Worst musical equipment? Allow me to introduce you to the loving Floyd Rose Tremolo: See how the intonation adjusting screws are under the strings? That simple, obvious and easy to fix design flaw makes the difference between a guitar being a half hour to one hour set-up to it being at least two usually three. In the thirty seven years since coming up with the guitar tremolo system made by guitar techs for guitar techs have they addressed it at all? Nope they have been far to busy on more important development issues: http://www.floydrose.com/news/frx-tremolo-system-approved-and-in-production http://www.floydrose.com/news/floyd-rose-distributes-stone-tone-rock-blocks It's also worth point out design flaw number two. The place where the locking nut attaches on most guitars is right at that vulnerable neck volute point. A place were less material is clearly a cunning plan. And this is all to fix what amounts to a non-problem: See that MiJ Squire strat? It has the absolute shitiest ever produced Fender tremolo system. With a little bit of pencil work on the nut, proper installation of the strings (minimum number of wraps to prevent reseating issues) and a simple quick setup to balance the string pull properly, zero problems even with strings flapping dive bombs. Blackmore (etc) have been using these systems for decades with no fuss and no significant problems. t you Floyd Rose. People paying close attention may have noticed that the strat in the picture above has three volume knobs. That's one for each PU! A standard five way switch is actually a make before break DPTT. The second pole is usually used to switch the tone circuits but can also be used to select more/other PUs. This way you can have all your PUs on, use the switch like you would on a Les Paul to swap between lead and rhythm levels or other bizarre stuff. Haven't seen this: monstrosity yet. Pete Townsend has always been know for impeccable taste (Rick from Cheap Trick has one too). Makes me wonder whether White Dogs Eggs used to work for Guild. There seems to be a point where the country crowd can out cluster gently caress even the most obnoxious hair metal players or blues dad's: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miQiaHYhb_o
