I haven't a clue where to really look for this particular itch because it's so far removed from the other stuff I usually listen to, hoping someone can help. I'm looking for something trancey.. I can't be more explicit than that, it seems like such a genre with masses of variation from one thing to the next and I guess the best way to describe the kind of trance I'm looking for is something I could put on to go to sleep listening to. I really want to avoid those godawful compilation albums which always seem to be the same songs you've already got, in a different order, you know the ones, 'THE ULTIMATE CHILLOUT TRANCE ALBUM VOLUME 10'. Anything without lyrics is probably going to be golden but that's a nitpick, I can deal with lyrics if 90% of what I'm listening to ticks the boxes. I used to download a weekly / bi-weekly podcast of sorts from some big DJ that I've forgotten the name of but that was almost 10 years ago and I have no clue where to go for my hit of something different these days and I feel way out of touch (not that I was ever 'in' touch with the trance stuff) and not really sure what I should be looking for exactly. At the same time, I'm always up for some trance that's.. er.. punchy and uplifting. For want of a better description. Something I could put on to help me zone out at work and/or put on for a late night / early morning run. Please help

I think I've asked before but didn't get any replies. I simply adore Daft Punk's Alive 1997 and Alive 2007, is there anything else (preferably in long mix format) that sounds similar? I guess it'd be considered hard electro? I've tried searching just for hard electro mixes on YT but it's hit and miss, and none are super great like those two.

So what I'm looking for is some prog rock that has a similar sound to In the Court of the Crimson King. After listening to King Crimson's later work, I've frankly been quite disappointed to find by how they immediately move away from the hard rocking highs of ItCotCK to go in a much mellower, more jazzy direction, which basically renders the mood shifts that they love to pull so much completely toothless, at least in comparison to ItCotCK.

I'd say look into Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. I recently learned that Tony Levin's band does a cover of "Sleep is Wrong" which kinda blew my mind. SGM put out I think 3 official studio albums but their live shows were where it was at. To look at them you might at first glance think they're some weird goth band but they were way more like prog rock/metal but with lots of homemade instruments and cool hooks. I used to be big into metal until maybe a couple of weeks ago when I fell off the metal train big time. It's happened so suddenly that I don't really know what I like anymore, but I do know that I like Sleepwalking by The Chain Gang of 1974 (the Grand Theft Auto 5 adverts song). I've listened to the rest of the album that that song came from and liked it but it wasn't perfect. I guess what I'm looking for is a band that's kind of electro indie/pop that's pretty catchy on the surface but pretty brooding and dark underneath. I guess I'm looking for the Drive soundtrack? Sorry if I'm not being particularly clear. Like I said, I'm not sure what I like anymore but anything would be appreciated.

Have you listened to their album Red? I always thought that that album and the instrumental stuff on "Larks Tongues in Aspic" rocked harder than ItCotCk, jazziness and all. (Not sure how that would cheapen or "render toothless" a shift in mood anyway...). And what are "Crimson King's" hard-rocking highs? Schizoid man? Maybe Epitaph? Van der Graaf Generator get really moody and dissonant at times. Try Godbluff and Pawn Hearts. Be aware, though, there is a lot of saxophone.

So I loving hate The Eagles. But only after Joe Walsh joined. I realize this isn't a popular opinion, but The Eagles made better music before Joe Walsh, and Joe Walsh made better music before The Eagles. I think Desperado is one of the greatest albums ever made. It's a fantastic rock western album with great harmonies and really a brilliant concept album. Is there anything similar to it?

Ambient/minimal techno: So I loving worship Minilogue's new album "blomma" and even bought two vinyl copies and am having one framed. Yeah, i love it that much. Anyway, wondering if anyone can point me in any directions as to more of this stuff, ambient minimal can be really boring at times and sometimes the "dub" sound gets overdone. I have Nikosf "collecting the moments" on vinyl too which i really love. Any pointers to more ethereal ambient techno like "blomma"? Those synths... My god. I've listened to it a thousand times and still not sick of it.
