I hate poo poo like this because it makes the rest of us look bad. It has no effect on making other riders 'think about road safety' because if they do, they always have and the video just makes them shake their heads in dismay. If they don't, the video won't change their view one way or another. The only thing it does is make people who don't ride abhor the whole thing even more and make it even less likely for rider friendly legislation and popular perception to gain traction. I was at the Circuit of the Americas track day this weekend. I got a little more experience on my SV, got to take an 899 Panigale around the track for free*, and best of all, I didn't crash. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3BX7PTUGhs *Eurosport Cycle from Fort Worth brought down an 899 Panigale, 1199 Panigale, EBR 1190, and some Aprilia RSV4, and allowed people to sign up to spend a session (20 minutes) on the track at no cost. The only condition was you give them a credit card, and if you had an accident you paid their $1500 deductible. I chose to ride the 899 and thought it was an awesome machine. The only downside was that the person who had it before me returned to the paddock after my session had already started, and then the fuel tank was empty. By the time they got the bike to me, I only had time to do one lap. ----- Now, this track day was loving expensive, and that in part, meant that the clientele looked a bit more wealthy. The paddock space I had was shared with a bunch of guys from Mexico who brought up their own personal support truck with mechanic, a few MV Augustas, Ducatis, BMW S1000RRs, and this: (Bimota Tesi/Vyrus of some sort with all carbon fiber body work) Our poors bikes: MetaJew fucked around with this message at 05:47 on Sep 8, 2014 |

Only doing one lap didn't give me a lot of time to experience it and I didn't want to bin it, BUT the bike was very easy to adapt to. I love how narrow it was, there were gobs of power and torque available, and while I didn't do anything sudden or crazy I like having TCS and ABS available to me. I left the bike in sport mode, but the dealer offered to put it in race mode. I figured at my skill level I didn't need to worry about backing it in to turns. Long story short, I loved it but it's too rich for my blood.

Road out to the Tail of the Dragon a couple weeks ago and got a picture I feel really captures the entire Dragon experience. We were cruising along when we came up on a downed Harley, so we stopped and helped him pull his bike out of the ditch. The bike had fallen on the passenger so her knee was all hosed up and not supporting weight. We offered to head back down the road because we'd spotted an LEO giving out tickets earlier. On our way back down we found the same LEO now headed back up the road towards us escorting a semi. We turned around to follow him and the semi back to the downed couple where the LEO stopped to give aid. This is the result. Semi can't continue without his police escort so he stopped there for a while and people haphazardly worked there way around him from both directions through the blind corner. Felt super safe. Still a pretty cool road though.
