Lower platforms, closer to Pikachu, still block the thunderbolt. That is, if you're standing on the ground in Battlefield, you can use Thunder through the top platform, but not through the side ones.

Speaking as someone who played an obscene amount of Smash Brothers 64 in college and hasn't really done much smashing since, this demo is rad as gently caress and I'm overwhelmed by nostalgia here. I'm no longer going to be able to exercise restraint and wait 3 more weeks to buy the US version for my American 3DS. It looks great on the XL screen, the framerate is smooth as silk, the visuals look lush -- they've done amazing things with this hardware. Just spent another 2-minute battle zapping fools with Pikachu and chucked a trophy thing that ended up unleashing Pong death on everyone. So awesome.
