So, is Israel going to have to take scuds and like it again like in 1991? I can't see most of the Middle-Eastern part of that coalition surviving direct Israeli intervention. Poor Netanyahu, he just can't catch a break.

Amused to Death posted:Ah so they're basically Britain Jr. Realchat: Britain only took over colonies established by others. They didn't do much colonizing themselves. In East through West Africa, Oman operated a vast slave trade documented as far back as the 6th century. Oman ruled through a 3-tier division: Omani slavers using Indian-crewed Dhows were at the top, local tribal and kingdom-level leaders had nominal control over their people so long as they could meet Omani slave quotas, and Indian/expat tribal populations were the third group and were used as labor by the Omanis against local power structures. I thought it was more of a medium-range thing.

So this speech seems kind of short notice. Did the Republicans get time to reserve a timeslot for a rebuttal? Because if I don't get to hear McCain and/or Graham talking about how what we should be doing is the same thing, but so it magically fixes everything I'll feel cheated.

No, but really it's cool that there will be airstrikes against Syria without any action by Congress, since Syria is a country where there is no US embassy, no US mission, no (declared) US agents or interests.
