I'm hankering after some good cyberpunk thing to watch. In my stupid head I'm imagining a cross between Akira, Serial Experiments Lain and Blade Runner. I know this doesn't exist, but what is there that's close-ish? Bonus points for being atmospheric

To be serious, you're right in that it's probably pretty close to what he's describing, but that show thinks it has so much more to say than it does. I found it to be an eye-rolling snore fest.

The Ghost in the Shell franchise if you by some twist of fate have not seen it. Doesn't completely fit what you're describing but it's good cyberpunk at least.

If for some weird reason you haven't seen Texhnolyze, you might want to start with that.

Also, though not strictly cyberpunk, Psycho-Pass fits with your criteria and has a second season starting up next month.

Seriously though, Psycho-Pass was terrible and even if you've already seen it you're better off watching Ghost in the Shell again instead.

I have heaps and heaps of nostalgia for this movie, being as it's one of the first anime I ever saw that I could make any sense of. I wouldn't call it very atmospheric, but it's worth watching.

Stick to the sub unless you want to hear Kiefer Sutherland at his very worst. Oh god.

Psycho-Pass and Ghost in the Shell are both series whose reach exceeds their grasp. The difference is that Psycho-Pass is funny and ironic and anti-authoritarian about it, and Ghost in the Shell is none of those things.

Or better yet; see the actual four-episode Armitage III OVA and not the butchered-down Poly-Matrix movie. It has a different dub cast, so no Kiefer Sutherland and Juliet Lewis. You do get Bryan Cranston instead though.

Well, with only 3 anime im enjoying this season i need some suggestions for things i might like.

I havent seen the majority of things, and this list is a list of stuff i sat down and watched all the way through or am currently watching.

Past and current faves run the gamut from:

The Stuff i lose my mind over ( absolutely love )
Code Geass
Aldnoah.Zero
Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet
No. 6

Favorites that i enjoy:
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Black Butler
Makai Ouji: Devils and Realist
Mushishi
Fullmetal Alchemist
Free! Iwatobi Swim Club/Eternal Summer
Sword Art Online
Un-Go
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

Guilty Pleasures ( Stuff that is bad but i still like )
Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi
Valvrave the Liberator
Samurai Flamenco
Uraboku
Ghost 07

Apologies if this list is useless. Any suggestions would be helpful. Im willing to give just about anything the 3 episode test, and need stuff to fill the time. I do admit a lot of this runs the gamut between genres and even styles of storytelling, so im not sure how much the list will help.

Only things i absolutely wont watch are things with 200+ episodes ( Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, basically the super long series ) . I dont need to fill time THAT badly.

You should be watching Haikyuu!! yo. Even if the subs are pretty bad.

If you're cool with manga, +C: Sword and Cornett might be something worth checking out, in that it's super gay (but not really really), and that's more for flavor for the plot about medieval fantasy politics.

The answer will always be Cyber City Oedo 808.

Make sure you get the original Manga Studios dub for extra freshness.

It's just that as it progresses it's also spectacularly good at writing teenagers and immature/selfish adults.

Yeah, like I find Shuffle and Comic Party enjoyable in some dopey little way, even though I know they're pretty mediocre at best. There are just times when I don't want some grand moving or inspirational story I just want a really loving dumb series and both of those shows fit the bill perfectly.
