Thanks for this. I actually used Blood to Salts, the one that restores health when you melee people to death, the one that lets you melee from like ten feet away, the electric melee, and the fully upgraded Charge power to pretty much bounce around the room like a Mass Effect Vanguard, constantly getting my health, shield and vigors regenerated as I pinball about smacking people in the face. I don't even bother using guns anymore unless a robot (or a g-g-g-g-ghost mom) pops out, it's ridiculously overpowered. Almost moreso than the wrench, which I didn't think was possible.

It's also the most fun way to play. The gunplay in the game is pretty meh but fully upgraded, the melee is fantastically fun.

I know this is a few years late, but Darksiders, specifically the Steam version. I just finished the game for the first time and the wiki needs a lil update. There are a few problems, specifically concerning Achievements and also the late-game Special Armor.

- In order for Steam Achievements to work, Steam MUST be restarted each time you play the game. No one knows why, but restarting Steam will make achievements work correctly.

- Make a save game before collecting the final piece of Special Armor. In order to start a new game+ mode with Special Armor unlocked from the beginning, you have to have collected the final piece before quitting the game. Collect the final piece of Special Armor, quit to main menu, then start a new game. This will allow you to use Special Armor from the beginning!

These two points have been tested and proven by me, and should replace the 3rd and 4th tabs on the Darksiders page in the beforeiplay.com wiki.

You may not strictly need to play it, but Bioshock is a good game and Infinite is clearly written as a follow-up to it.

Infinite can stand on its own however the ending hinges on a certain element common to the series and the impact may be lessened if you're not aware of it.

That's not necessary because it's really simple: everything begins with a lighthouse, a man, and a city. It was a self reflecting moment and I wouldn't have cared about the ending as much if it was the first game I played.

But Rapture plays a role in Infinite and more so if you get the DLC so playing the first game is still recommended.

e: Haha, Bioshock 2 subverts that anyway so ignore my comment, I got lost in a memory.

Bear in mind that you're playing the original Bioshock for the story and atmosphere. It's a mediocre shooter.

Also it's $20 on Steam, which is a lot for a 7 year old game.

It's frequently heavily discounted and the atmosphere, art design and story are still great.

That's cool. The reason I'm interested is because of the story and atmosphere I've heard so much about. I couldn't really care less about the shooter side of it. I've also got all three in my steam library (presumably from an old sale or humble bundle).

If you're going to play the DLC, I would say that Bioshock 1 is basically mandatory. The events of episode 2 assume a lot of knowledge of the first game, to the point where a lot of things probably won't even make sense if you haven't played it.

I really liked Bioshock 2 as well for what its worth. Not as good as the first, but passable and enjoyable.

Also, surprisingly enough there is a prequel book that was pretty drat good that leads into Bioshock 1 and 2.

Personally, and I'm the only person I've met who has thought this, I did not care for Bioshock 1 or 2 and didn't play either for more than an hour or so. I finished and enjoyed Infinite though and understood what was going on, though I had a fair amount of familiarity with the general concept of Rapture from all the hype surrounding the first game.

Bioshock ends with you fighting this giant guy. He turns red with fire, so you need to shoot him with ice. Then he turns blue with ice and you need to shoot him with fire. I'm pretty sure my eyes rolled so hard they flipped back around. In a game filled with creativity, it was pretty much one of the least creative things I'd ever seen.

You don't need to do anything special in the fight, is the thing. You just kill him the same way you kill everything else(with all the explosives you've been hoarding).

You can break a certain window with a chair or something, at one point. You also need to use a needle on a body on a table later, which was pretty obscure.

Otherwise, just be on the lookout for physics-manipulable things, and plow forwards. :getin:

It gets a lot better once you start actually unlocking good/cool plasmids and the story picks up. But no one would begrudge you for playing through on Easy to quickly get past the rather dull first couple hours.

If you get to the point where you can shoot bees from your hand, and the game still isn't holding your interest, then you can go ahead and drop it.

Honestly, I think it picks up a little towards the middle, but for sure play on easy, because the combat is poo poo. Nothing but bullet spongy enemies. Also, the console commands that give you all the camera research are a godsend. gently caress that hacking minigame bullshit. Its fun the first few times, but quickly becomes tedious.

Thanks for the Bioshock advice guys. I'm currently on the first and enjoying the story quite a bit. As people have said the combat is pretty boring though, I've got it set to easy, but I'm considering running a few cheats as well so I don't have to keep dicking about hacking stuff, and just enjoy exploring.
