I've been enjoying Destiny quite a bit. I'm not usually a big FPS fan, but for whatever reason I like this one.

Every single destiny story mission is nothing but huge set pieces. Have you been to the moon??

superh posted:Every single destiny story mission is nothing but huge set pieces. Have you been to the moon?? Yeah, that's kinda what I like about it. You have these big open maps to roam around in, but then the single player missions take those maps, section them off, and add in scripted stuff and encounters that make it feel like a single player map. It's good economy of resources, you're not dealing with just like 8 handmade levels, but several giant maps that are sectioned off into handmade missions. In the singleplayer, I've fought off aliens with a giant fuckoff sword, infiltrated an alien spaceship, investigated a vault that had been sealed for centuries, and fought a giant robot summoned through a warp gate. If those aren't setpieces, I don't know what is.

Reverse Centaur posted:Why doesn't Destiny have an option to just auto-group with pubbies, btw? The most fun I had in the beta was playing with people, something I haven't done once in the full game. I can only play late night (west coast) on weekdays and can't talk on headphones so I feel completely alone in this "adventure." Plus every other goon seems to be level 20+ already and I'm just starting the moon. To add to what everyone else said, high level guys get high level loot from engrams dropped on lower levels and it helps level up weapons/armour, so it's really not a burden to help out lower guys. Is there any clear verdict on what are the best Headset Companion App presets? I'm looking for something really well balanced that I can use for everything. Open to custom settings as well. It's enough of a pain in the rear end to change them that I do not want to try them all out 1 by 1. For anyone on the fence about buying them.. They are awesome. I normally play using a DAC/amp with my Sennheiser cans. These are comfy, practical and sound good enough that I don't bother anymore

So almost a year into owning my PS4 and I love it! Yes there's a lot of room for improvement on the software side (still can't pause / queue downloads ) but that will come with time I'm sure. My biggest complaint really is that the battery life of the controller is God-awful, even with the light set to dim & vibration turned off, I'm lucky to get a couple of days out of it. My 360 controller lasted weeks on rechargeable AA batteries (granted I have equivalent to 4x the charge of the DS4) and I just wish Sony either put in a much larger capacity battery or gave the option of removable AAs. I'm just really thankful I bought 2 controllers at launch because I'm constantly switching between them.

Grab a docking/charging station. I have the official one, which I really like, but there are a couple of other good ones. Just sling your controllers in those and forget about needing to charge them. Probably stating the obvious, but I think it was money well spent in terms of keeping everything tidy and always charged.

I did for one month back on my ps3, when they gave everyone a free month for that whole psn being down for a month and all that. I guess that's it then. There should really be a different error message though, so people know that's the case.

It's one of those neat, no-nonsense pieces of kit that does excatly what it should do. Just had a look and some cheaper ones are basically USB extentions with a chunk of plastic. For some reason the official one seems to be hard to find in the US though. It's not even on Amazon. No idea why. So, somehow I got a decent sized scratch/scuff on the glossy part of my PS4. Visible without looking at it in JUST the right light at the right angle. It bothers me, not sure how it got there, maybe a game case or controller scratched along it. Anyway, I know they sell replacements in Japan for about $10 but not in the US. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement without buying a special edition one on ebay for $200+?

I didn't mind because I loved exploring the wilderness while everyone else was killing each other.

Not sure what people were expecting with Destiny. I mean yeah even as someone who loves the game it's clear they ran out of time and weren't as focused as they could have been but there was tons of footage of the Beta and it was pretty obvious that a pretty good chunk of the terrain was already seen there. I mean this is Activision they're gearing up to do multiple map/story packs a year, a full sequel every year or two, come on. I mean Bungie and Infinity Ward people both left their big evil publishers in a huff to do their own breakthrough visionary masterpiece totally original game. Since they both in a flash of insight and innovation independently decided that that would entail "make Brink but with a lower player count" it's a miracle Destiny is any good at all (EA really bet on the wrong horse though, holy poo poo).

Nah, only a few issues, and not for everybody. Personally I never had any of those glitches, but I was also playing it on a non-stock hard drive; I would imagine they would be able to iron that stuff out, especially with Sony's pressure on studios to deliver games digitally.

The issue was also a result of low ram on the old consoles. With the amount in the ps4 this won't be an issue. Buy it digital.

Anyone have experience connecting a PS4 through a VPN? How does it work? I thought maybe that could solve my Crucible disconnection issues in Destiny. There is one bad hop between me and Destiny, and I was hoping a VPN might avoid it. The Bungie networking goon has been awesome trying to help me fix my issue, but there is only so much he can do if a cheap ISP in the middle of the route will not fix their poo poo. I cannot switch ISPs without moving to another town.

Lots of decisions for me. I haven't played any of the remakes or last gen games that are getting or have gotten upgrades for PS4. So Tomb Raider, GTA 5, Sleeping Dogs are all new to me. I can't decide if I should wait to grab GTA 5 and Sleeping Dogs until the prices go down or pre-order them. I've managed to wait for Tomb Raider and its down to $35 bucks now. May grab that next I guess.

Infamous First Light is pretty good. I like the score system for challenge mode, and I additionally like that you get upgrade points from challenges instead of just always running around collecting shards.

GTA 5 is certainly worth the full price if you're a fan of the series. Sleeping Dogs is great but I would be shocked if you can't get it at a discount not long after release. SD has been dirt cheap in multiple Steam sales and it just doesn't seem right to pay $60 for it, even with all of the DLC.

I completely finished GTA V and almost never play games twice but I can totally see myself playing it through again while ignoring AC and Far Cry, and Shadows of Mordor. It's that good. So annoying that everything is coming out at once.
