Still in development, but approaching a release date. Personally I'd tell you to hold off a little until they have something close to a singleplayer campaign rather than a sandbox.

It's a fairly creditable full 3d 'starfleet command' alike with a few rough edges, but it's shaping up.

Any goonpinions on these two weeklies? I just happen to have the Steam bux sitting around to cover the cost of one.

Asteria - Terraria-esque explore + shoot that apparently cuts down on the tedious mining?

Terrian Saga: KR-17 - Yet another retro action platformer that looks to have some production quality behind it.

I don't play a ton of dig deeper/resource hoarding style of games, but have played a few hours of Asteria. First off, I wouldn't say it cuts down on the tedium of aimlessly amassing minerals/materials. Each boss area is pre-made and decent enough, but to get to them, you have to build an item that floats off in the general direction of the portal. The thing is, you'll have to mine through poo poo and fight enemies and such on the way, so you'll likely lose track of the beacon and have to use multiples ones unless you just want to spend 10 minutes digging in the general direction it went and hope for the best. The first boss area is really close to the starting area, but the next few (and I've only played through maybe 3-4 such areas) definitely require a lot of tedius mining to get to. The world felt very boring to explore. It was just tunnel through stuff until you found the next boss portal.

As for the combat stuff, I can't remember a bunch off-hand other than the game lacking invicibily frames of any sort, so there are times you'll fall onto a small enemy from above and then have your health bar disappear super-quick. Since the character and enemy models tend to be rather small in scope compared to the rest of the game, this sort of thing is quite annoying. There's also no ding indication either when you're low on health or posioned/lacking oxygen. This will probably result in your first death from poison/suffocation to completely catch you off guard since you won't be paying a ton of attention to the text indication that says you're in danger of dying since you're just mining poo poo randomly and not keyed in to what's happening.

This sounds like a really negative review but I played it for 3-4 hours and though it was okay, but haven't touched it in 6 weeks since it didn't really capture my attention and I'm not big on the genre in general. It was alright but I didn't feel compelled to keep at it and it's kind of stuck in the "I'll get back to it" pile which mean I'll likely never get back to it. Maybe others who like these types of games more could offer a better insight in how it compares to the more well-known genre games.

Guessing midweek madness, or free weekend. Regardless, it's one of the best sniper games I've played. There's a decent stealth mechanic that improves on the previous game's issues.

Sonic Adventure is a decent port. Crazy Taxi has all of the licensed materials removed (soundtrack + businesses) which makes it kind of lame to play somehow.

Never tried the fishing one.

Sonic Adventure is internally fixed at 640x480 and has no widescreen support. It defaults to 1280x720 windowed, in which the game is letterboxed to 800x600 with an ugly purple background filling the rest of the area. There's no controller icons so you have to guess what buttons do what. The config app has Open Your Heart blaring in the background like some lovely keygen or something. Oh and in the Steam version, the config app doesn't even work. There's a fix... that involves cracking open the registry. Combine all this with audio bugs like random blaring noises in the second part of Twinkle Park and general wonkiness carrying over from older versions but made worse by the sheer amount of porting the game has been through.

Decent Port indeed. If you want Sonic Adventure on your PC, you're probably better off trying to play the Gamecube version in Dolphin. Sonic Adventure 2 (not on sale) is a good port though.

As for Crazy Taxi, I couldn't care less about whether or not Pizza Hut or KFC exists in the game world, but the licensed Offspring music just fits the tone of the game so well that it seems like it would be naked without it. Amusingly, the more recent iOS and Android ports have that music so I dunno what the gently caress.

I never encountered anything like that except with machine gun bunkers. Hell, my big problem with SE2 is that it had all the aspirations to being a stealth game (or at least a "stealth into position then go nuts with rifles and trip mines" kind) but really all the game wanted you to do was go prone at one end of a street and shoot at the Nazi's slowly making their way toward you from the opposite end.

That might be what I was thinking of. I played it on hard as well, which I am sure didn't help. In any case, the videos of SE3 are looking good. A free weekend would be perfect, but I can't see that happening for a recent release. It'll most likely be on the midweek sale.

I have this, and it's not too shabby. Pretty much a standard platforming shooter, but the controls are solid, music's pretty good, and the weapons are satisfying. Reminds me of those old DOS platformers that were everywhere.

I'll give you a definite maybe.
So I picked up Shadowcrypt since I like that style of game and checked it out for 30 minutes. My first response is that it feels pretty tight and I'll enjoy going through it, but I don't think it's a $10 purchase by any means since there's no dungeon randomization as far as I can see. At the moment I'd recommend it once it drops to the $3-5 range.
