I guess I had fun in HLM when I figured I could just run and gun and now have to slam my head into the wall until I lucked out and got through. At the end it became obvious to me that there was an exact way of having to do something and that totally sucked the fun out of it. Thought I had finally gotten through the game then I get the biker levels. I can't pick up weapons and if I lose my throwing knives I'm pretty much screwed in regard to dudes with guns. Of which there are always more than you have knives.
What I'm saying is that by the end the way I had to play the game, or the way the game was making me play, was not how I had fun the rest of it. So I have up, again, in the second biker chapter.

You can beat both his levels without using throwing knives. The guy behind the counter in Safehouse is the hardest but as the loading screen says, use your speed to your advantage. You can either aggro him and duck back behind a walk, pop in and out to waste his bullets or if your balls are particularly big you can do a U-turn to kill the guy in the big room then run back up to him but I've only done that one with blind luck.

The Biker supports the intended method of playing more then the masks do; You're punished for hesitation and planning ahead. You need to act with confidence and figure things out as you go.

Yeah that'd be awesome. Also the best mask is the one that adds no benefits.

It just makes things messier. :q: Too bad I had to cross the map twice to find more meatbags, could've broken that streak.

This is my absolute favorite way to play that level. Goes faster with the horse mask, but still so drat satisfying.

I asked on Twitter once about if the various weird masks like Jones, Russel, Nigel or Oscar would come back but neither of the devs responded. :smith:

I do wonder how hard it'd be to import stuff from the first game into the second as level editor assets, if it'd be possible at all.

If I recall correctly they've stated they're getting rid of the gimmick masks and there are no different masks, just different characters and their playstyles, i.e. the dude with the Tiger mask is like Tony, the dude with the zebra mask can combat roll.

That's mostly how it's working, but I'm wondering if there'll be a way to enable the gimmick masks on the various characters. Like a 'cheats' menu.

What are the biker levels? The game didn't force me to change my play style ever. I just ran ahead as fast as possible killing everyone instantly along the way without ever stopping. It's the only way to play. I mean sure you might die over and over until you adjust to what you are facing, but there's no penalty for it and you are back in the action instantly.

Prior to hotline miami I thought magicka was one of the coolest indie games I had played.

After you beat the game there are 3 or 4 levels where you play as Biker, the miniboss you fight in Chapter 7 - Neighbors.

I spent my rent money on tentacle porn.
Seeing as the Payday 2 Hotline Miami DLC comes out today it got me thinking about the delay and whether maybe it's because the studios are doing a full crossover and they're adding some Payday levels into Hotline Miami as well?

Could definitely see the Payday Gang pixelized.

Or maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part.

I'm hoping someone can help me out here, I'm playing HM on a mac (10.9.2) and my keyboard isn't fully recognised. I can use the arrow keys or WASD to go through the menu, but can't select anything. I hit escape but that won't back me out of the menu.

Is there something I need to reset, or a config file I need to delete or something?

EDIT: Just an update, turns out I had my RetroLink SNES USB controller plugged in, and since that's not a 360 controller, the game didn't know what the gently caress.

🚣RowboatMan: ❄️Freezing time🕰️ is an old P.I. 🥧trick...

I was explaining this game to my friend today (he'd never even heard about it, but then again, he only plays games on his 360), and I brought up the music and how much I love it.

I showed him Hydrogen, and then Static, explaining "this track (Hydrogen) gets you all sorts of pumped up to commit various murders with all sorts of weapons, you get into a groove, sometimes playing the same floor over and over until you get it right, but it's ok, because you are a killing machine and nothing can stop you. The very moment you kill the last enemy, it immediately switches to this ("Static") and your mood completely changes, and you have to ask yourself 'what am I doing this for, and did I really just have that much fun doing it?'"

It never fails to 'get' me when that happens. I mean, obviously I know it's just a game and it's not actually affecting me on some deep level, but they nailed that feeling of the rug being pulled right out from under you while you're in the middle of some crazy, violent 'high'.

Guess who refused to rate Hotline Miami 2? :australia:

quote:

An implied rape scene has made Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number too offensive for Australian audiences, says the local Classification Board. The latest from Dennaton and Devolver has been Refused Classification (effectively banned), and will not be released Down Under.

UPDATE: The Classification Board has gotten back to us with a copy of the Hotline Miami 2 report, which explains that the game has been Refused Classification for an implied rape scene.

The following excerpt may be offensive to some readers:
In the sequence of game play footage titled Midnight Animal, the protagonist character bursts into what appears to be a movie set and explicitly kills 4 people, who collapse to the floor in a pool of copious blood, often accompanied by blood splatter. After stomping on the head of a fifth male character, he strikes a female character wearing red underwear. She is knocked to the floor and is viewed lying face down in a pool of copious blood. The male character is viewed with his pants halfway down, partially exposing his buttocks. He is viewed pinning the female down by the arms and lying on top of her thrusting, implicitly raping her (either rear entry or anally) while her legs are viewed kicking as she struggles beneath him. This visual depiction of implied sexual violence is emphasised by it being mid-screen, with a red backdrop pulsating and the remainder of the screen being surrounded by black.

We're warned that this is not a complete list of the offensive content featured in Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number.

The Australian Classification Guidelines explicitly forbid sexualised violence in video games, so it's no surprise that this scene has caused issues with the censorship board. We are still waiting to hear back from Dennaton and Devolver about whether or not the developer or publisher will be appealing the decision or submitting a modified version of the game.

I thought they were going to take that scene out after complaints.

I saw a post today about how it is behind two "are you sure" screens. One to choose the uncut version of the game, and another to choose whether to show the sexual violence or not.

Actually the Dennaton guys were pretty mature about the reaction to that scene in the demo and said they were going to evaluate whether it was worth keeping in the game at all, I'm glad they chose an easy way for people to opt out of having to see something like that because it's pretty hosed up.

Please don't turn this thread into what it was when that demo had just come out. :ohdear:
