Still don't understand how a human being can stay in praying mantis posture for an hour. It obviously works, but it must hurt like hell.

There was someone a few years ago that blogged about trying a dope program just to see, google it so you don't have to waste your time. For DIY doping you can do a lot worse than getting a script for Ritalin or Adderall. Though seriously do not exercise on amphetamines. If you have a big budget you really want to find a dishonest dr to score some HGH and EPO. Once you get on the HGH which is really next level poo poo, the gains last well beyond the program if you continue your training, EPO on the other hand requires continuous dosing to maintain the benefits. Enjoy the associated health risks, including increased cancer risk, financial cost and beating your friends on the road to the cafe stop. FYI your experienced riding buddies will know what's going on and talk poo poo behind your back and not ride with you.

I'm a lovely cat 3/4 and am way too cheap to spend money on that poo poo. I sort of remember the same article. Masters doping is a running joke among my friends and i love the idea doping yourself silly and sandbagging it in a cat 3 cyclocross race.

There is certainly a strong emotion associated with being at a new performance level for anyone that does sports. Charging up to be the best one can be, impossibly lean, strong, to feel no fatigue crushing >7W/KG on successive climbs. It must be addictive and dangerous once that box has been opened, Ricardo Ricco is testament to that.

Merckx was pre EPO/blood bags right? Mostly stimulants and stuff. While still a boost, the improvement over natural baseline must have been more limited than blood doping for instance. Even though doping is doping and such I feel somehow this is/was a different kind of doping than say Lance.

Too popular to get busted? A lot of people didn't like him because he was just too good. Drug or no drugs, he was just better than the rest (who would have been on the same stuff anyway).

Xabi posted:Drug or no drugs, he was just better than the rest (who would have been on the same stuff anyway). Definitely wouldn't disagree here. I think it would be neat if they had a Merckx style hour record with a very standardized bike, and then a more 'bike+rider' record in line with what Voight did where you can have a TT-style frame and aero bars and sponsors can talk up their bike design cred.

Too bad Thor won't try for the Worlds again. I was always a big fan and my road bike is basically Thor 2009 Cervelo. Worlds contenders to me are: France Belgium Australia Italy Spain (barely)

Bouhanni should be too young to take Worlds distance and 4200m climb at race pace and still be fresh enough to beat the usual contenders. I really can't see a Frenchman winning against the current field. These are usually races of attrition, the sprint teams can try controlling but eventually there will be a selection forced by the classics/one day specialists.

Most people are saying Sagan will win this one but I just cant see it myself.

Gerrans looks really good now and has a great team. They destroyed the GP de Montreal. I agree about Bouhanni, but the strength of their team this year was alarming. I can't wait.

Chenghiz posted:Definitely wouldn't disagree here. They tried that. Called it the "athletes hour" or some such. Pretty much Boardman and that gangly eastern block dude were the only ones to do anything memorable. Boardman beat Merckx by something like 10 meters and the Slovakian gangle was doped to the gills. Everyone else stayed away. Even so, I'm pretty sure Boardman used clipless pedals with shoe covers, an aero cover on his helmet and bladed spokes. The technology creep is inevitable, and other than locking a bike (or a size run of bikes) up like the top gear liana, you're kind of S.O.L. if you're looking for a fair fight. glyph fucked around with this message at 13:38 on Sep 22, 2014 |

Was hoping you guys could help me out - as part of my university Graduate studies, I'm conducting research on the consumer habits of cycling enthusiasts. Because this thread is clearly chocked-full of cycling fans, I wanted to invite you guys to participate in my research study by completing a quick survey I put together. The questionnaire I put together https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/cyclingresearch consists of ten multiple-choice questions and will require approximately 3-5 minutes of your time to complete. I am not collecting any personally identifiable information. If you choose to participate in this project, please answer all questions as honestly as possible. Thank you for taking the time to help me out and assist me in my educational endeavors. If you require additional information or have any questions, please ask. Thank you.
