That's not at all how that works. It's contacted while in possession of the ball. He goes to the ground to recover the fumble and is disengaged before possession occurs. Otherwise no defensive lineman could ever flop on a fumble then get up and run. After all, they've been contacted by an opposing player.

You can, however, declare yourself down without being touched (taking a knee for example, or flopping on the ball and covering up in this instance).

You're right. Brain fart on my part. DBC only comes into play after he becomes a runner, after the recovery. However, it looks like 54 is there to touch him down within a few frames after the end of the gif, so it's moot.

This discussion started because no one touched him. Not even during replays from other angles, there is no one bothering to touch him.

I was yelling 'Run you dickhole' at the tv but to no avail.

He's endeared himself to the fanbase in almost the most Roddy way possible, and if he got up to run, he'd have been torched. The play was over.

Each team gets a shot at it from their opponents 35. Scoring is the same, but if you get a TD you have to go for the 2 point convert. Saskatchewan picked off Ottawa on Ottawa's attempt, so even a single would have ended the game, meaning that Ottawa had to use their kickout team.

No points were scored on the play, so they did it all over again after.

edit: In the CFL, the answer to "When can I kick the ball?" is basically "Anytime's ok". A missed field goal (or punt) that goes out of bounds in the end zone or that a team doesn't advance out of their own end zone is a single point for the kicking team.

re-edit: this video explains what happens in this sort of play way better than I could.

The best one of these is when they do it for a field goal because nobody is within 10 yards of the guy and he's standing in the end zone when he catches the ball.
