All of the Deadpool bi-annual needs to go in here. Especially his plan for defeating Brute Force.

Sorry for all the pages, but this entire issue is very "WTF", especially so far removed from when it was written. See Kamandi takes place in the future. There was a "natural disaster" that wiped out most of humanity. Animals have evolved into intelligent beings and the humans that are left are mostly mindless beasts. Kamandi was raised in a fallout shelter and is trying to survive in this new world. Let's see what's up in this issue! Wait, Watergate? "Great Ceaser's" son is sent to get something for the snake dude and Kamandi goes with. They come across "Stake-Out"... ...and are worried about bugs. Also, Beatles pun! But inside are apes... ...who kidnap Ceaser's Son and the dog/scientist. They are indicted and put on trial... ...and sentenced to death by the "Watergate-Sound-Maker!" They are eventually rescued and the sound maker is destroyed. The end! Kamandi #15

Because people didn't understand how supply and demand affect value. They only heard legends of "old comics = big bucks" and there were price guides, so obviously getting #1 of something big means it'll be worth a lot "some day."

I was a very very stupid and sheltered proto-goon of the tender age of 4-7 when the speculator boom was going on and while I wasn't some savant who had intuition about economics, I do distinctly remember trying to get into comics and being very put off by the fact that every issue on every shelf was "Issue #1" of some series I had never heard of week after week after week. I didn't know exactly why it was wrong, but I could tell that there was something very very wrong about that. It was so impenetrable and dominated by older goon-types I actually didn't get into comics proper until about 2001 with Ultimate Spider-Man. I'd like to believe I'm actually quite stupid, and that I wasn't the only one noticing something was very very off during those years.

Believe me there were a lot of people pointing out how broken the industry had become back in 1992. I was selling comics back then and the savvy people looked at the speculation market and said everything that has been said about it since. Not that it stopped anyone from taking advantage of the people who thought that prices could only go up and up.

Even to this day, I get a sudden thrill of "Gotta buy one for saving!" any time I see something labeled "Limited Edition!" But then I think, is there really a collectors market for limited edition labeled shaving gels for ladies?

I think the important thing to take from these pages is that it was Dr. Doom's investigation into Marvel's Share prices that ultimately lead to Marvel's bankruptcy in the 90's. Which then lead to Marvel film rights being sold to the highest bidder. Which in turn resulted in 20th Century Fox buying the rights for the Fantastic Four film. And that in turn resulted in the film with Julie McMahon playing Dr. Doom. So basically Doom was responsible for his reputation as a film villain being ruined. Still, just to be on the safe side, better blame Richards. RICHAAAAARDS!!!!!
