I wonder if Piaggio ever thought to strap the next motorcycle they see to the back of one.

These things were everywhere in Italy. They're kinda fun to drive too, once you get over the "handlebars are inside the car?" thing.

I can't even comprehend this. Both drivers got loose, and the clown in the '55 apparently has no harness at all? How the gently caress did that happen?

From what I heard it was a Street Outlaws race. Basically a bunch of guys who sneer at NHRA safety regs and would rather spend harness money on beer. The tracks around me are starting to get stricter on them because incidents like this are starting to be a wakeup call for the track owners that one day something is going to go south in a really bad way and some of the liability is gonna end up on the track.

At least he's ok, so he can soon be out telling people how getting ejected saved his life and being tightly strapped in would have been instant death. I'm always amazed at how many people still rally against seatbelts. "You'll never see me strapping on one of those murder belts again!"

I kept thinking how 2 mm sounds thin, then remembered that the stuff I design for is off-highway construction equipment (and the last six months: a 14+ ft long engine with 1000 lb turbos) where 3 mm is the minimum and weight is never a factor. I have no idea what's standard in a car frame/body.

EGR + PCV in a sooty diesel engine with no fuel injectors to wash off debris... yeah. Modern diesels with EGR are cleaner, but it was a big problem back then. I've seen several cleaning videos like that.
