The biggest problem I see with it is, again, Cryptic either doesn't understand how ships should be built, or is deliberately trapping pubbies with misleading advice. The starship trait for it buffs your beam overload attack, not your cannon skills. It may work well on another ship (since you can carry traits once you've unlocked them), or and it may work on a dedicated gank-boat, but for 80% of the population, it's largely useless. Otherwise, yes, it's a very shiny ship.

I'm really liking the Guardian. Looks like a nice, standard Feddie cruiser in the vein of the Galaxy. I want to see some more glamor shots, but that could well be a new daily driver (until the fleet variants arrive).

Is it possible to move a starship trait across factions? I can see wanting that trait on a sci ship possibly, and most of those that I have are fed.

Umm, am I reading this right? It honestly looks like the dauntless will be a decent ship. I'm not keen on the skills and traits, but outside it, pretty nice. Ltc and lt tac boffs is a nice start.

Eh, it buffs torpedo high yield too. It's an escort so you probably want to use a torpedo (although it's seating is a little tight there), and some encouragement to use HYT instead of Spread isn't all that bad.

And the Guardian kind of looks like the Fed version of the D'Deridex; Com or Lt.Com in every field with a decentish console layout (4/3/3, probably upgraded to 5/3/3 with fleet, but can go plasma beams and do decently well there with embassy consoles), but still kinda slow. If you do a damage control engineer build you can get away with using the hybrid seat for intel powers too. Probably not bleeding edge top tier, but good and competent and giving access to all the toys in PVE so it's basically an Ambassador that isn't poo poo. Also it's the Probert concept art for the Ambassador, so hey.

No idea at the moment since they're not implemented on Tribble. I'm... somewhat dubious though. Although this does mean klanks and roms are hosed at launch if they're character specific since there's four trait slots but they only have two T6 ships. :v:

I'm not sure if it'll outperform the Vesta; that has a hangar bay, and to be honest it looks like the Dauntless' engineering seating is way too thin. I've generally found you either need a Lt.Com seat or a Lt.+Ens seating, so you can load up on any three of EPTS/EPTW/ET/A2SIF. With this you're either doubling up on EPTS and giving up on a hull heal, or wasting 2-3 damage control engineers just to keep a single copy of EPTS up regularly.

I mean it's hardly useless, and the tac boffs go a long way, but... eh it's definitely a sidegrade at best unless you desperately want a Lt. intel seat.

When I said "looks like a classic Feddie cruiser", I meant in terms of physical art/styling. Unless they've significantly changed things at the end-game, you can spare some straight DPS for style points. :colbert:

They've said that there will be ship traits available outside of leveling a Tier 6 ship, probably through story progression, achievements, or STF/rep rewards. And yea, I'd be really surprised if they aren't in the new lockbox.

Can you do this already, or will it only unlock in October?

DatonKallandor posted:

Is that from a new mission on Tribble or does that happen in one of the missions they've already released? I can't wait to see how batshit crazy Cryptic goes with those time travelling other dimensional wizards.

Me neither; I'm hoping for some cool new environments myself- Cryptic's proven they can make some nice-looking places with fluidic space and the Dyson Sphere. I'd also like some more interaction with the Delta Quadrant races, maybe even find a tolerable Talaxian, or hire a Kazon boff (immune to Borg nanites :v: ).

Depends which trait you're talking about. If it's ground, not much, but who cares. If it's space, then you must mean either Subterfuge, Infiltrator, or Romulan Operative, all three of which are excellent traits and a big part of why the Scimitar, and Romulans in general, are so drat good.

Tier 6 ships are releasing in October. You'll be able to upgrade a number of Tier 5 ships, including fleet ships and lock-box ships, to T5U, which will gain four new "Mastery Levels", which are features inherent to, and directly locked to, the specific ship.

Lock-box and event ships (the Risian/Breen stuff) will upgrade for free. The fleet/C-store stuff you gotta pay for. Proposed prices are $5-10, but it's an account upgrade unlock. If you upgrade a c-store ship, it's upgrade for all the characters who claim it. Same with the fleet variants, it just costs 1/4/5 fleet ship modules to buy.

Not big enough to bother with in the slightest unless you're running a foundry farm or something like that. To be honest, I'm pretty sure that drop rate boost thing is apocryphal.

In leveling my Romulan alt yesterday, I hit level 10 and never got a mission to get my free leveling ship like I did with my Klank and Fed characters. Is this a bug, or is there some additional trigger in the Romulan story arc to trigger the free ship?

You have to do the mission where you pick a side (KDF/FED).

No. The difference is certainly quantifiable, but not practically useful unless you're doing as you say.

They also mentioned in one of the recent dev posts that they were "significantly" boosting the rate of blue & purple drops for cracking the difficulty, so it may be worth it sooner.

So far, the Romulan story is the most fun. Klingons were pretty fun at first too, but after it merged with the Fed storyline it got rather lame.

Yeah also at launch fedoras had easier access to plasmonic since that lockbox got released at the same time as LoR and the market got flooded. Now it's like 20-30mil so you'll have an easier time just buying the Vandal for 1000 zen and going klank. Going klank is also great for ganking pubbies in war zones.

RE: Starship traits. See today's dev post on captain specializations. There are three starship traits explicitly mentioned, so there's your four for klanks/roms right there.

E: Borticus is answering questions in the associated STO forum thread. 60 total abilities to purchase, 30 abilities in primary, 15 abilities in secondary, two secondaries at launch, limited to one primary and one secondary active at a time.

Wafflemancers are a confirmed primary to be launched at a later date.
