Do you guys think that the Samurai Warriors 4 anime edition is worth the extra cost if I have no interest in the anime itself? So mostly for the ingame content, any experiences with that from the japanese players?

I am kind of debating the same question. For $15 more you get the special edition case, soundtrack, and the anime movie (latter is fairly useless) so it's a nice little package for not much more then regular edition. DLC are just a few costumes, that in itself is not worth it. Gamestop in particular has a scenario DLC as a pre-order bonus though.

"Scenario Pack 1: New stages "Sinister Beauties" and "Men of Charm and Courage", and new items "Gold Lacquered Box" and "Lion Censer". Special Costumes for: Mitsunari Ishida and Toyohisa Shimazu". So meh considering amount of content already there I figure.

No Empires game has ever come to the PC. Of the Dynasty Warriors games, it's been 4(WITHOUT the XL content), 6, 8 Complete. I know Warriors Orochi 1 came to PC, also. All have been in a situation where they've been tricky to get at, little fanfare and such. 8's been fairly special.

Any reasonable difference between the PS3 and next gen consoles? I'm guessing prettier graphics and more bodies on screen, but anything beyond that?

I'm a broke, and have been doing a drat fine job convincing myself I don't need a PS4 yet.

Pretty much, yeah. Having more guys on screen at once is really the biggest attraction (at least to me), but the older versions are totally fine.

So what changes between the different scenarios in Empires 7? It's still the same map, the actual levels don't seem to be any different, the endgoal doesn't change, and there's no real noticeable story mode that I've seen.

I guess it's a different era so there are different people, but I don't know poo poo about the actual story so I don't really notice the difference. Well, that and I've made so many characters that they replace swathes of the actual characters.

Yeah it doesn't really matter if you don't care about the story. It's best to play the randomised scenario in that case (I think it's called Gathering of Heroes?). One unique thing in each scenario is that certain factions get access to historical battles if certain conditions are met. For example, in the Guandu Scenario, Yuan Shao's and Cao Cao's factions can fight the Battle of Guandu early on.

Are the empire games standalone or an expansion? Will I be able to import my 8XLCE save into empires? I was trying to hold out for empires but I really needed to scratch my dynasty warriors itch and just got 8 on ps4.

Yeah, most I remember about the story is from when I played the older DW games. So all I know is climbing a mountain to end the Yellow Turban Rebellion, and some guy calling his army a bunch of flaming idiots before making the wind blow really hard.

I can't actually remember what style 8 was in, but you may or may not know that RotK games come in two basic flavors: Governing the whole state or controlling just one dude and controlling things indirectly. 11 falls into the former camp, so it plays a little more like a traditional strategy game than the ones where you can bumble around the arse end of China drilling 314 soldiers who will never see combat or something.

The big thing I can think of is setting up districts. Your actions every turn are limited by Action Points and once you exceed a handful of cities, you won't be making enough AP per turn to make full use of them. Split off districts as groups of cities and set them to either capture things or support other districts. The AI isn't always the best at sending resources when you need them, but if you select a city in a district outside your own, you can still give Transport commands.

The style of 9-10 is totally rad, just being a random officer doing whatever, palling around and having drinks with the main characters until you decide to buckle up (or is invited) and go help out.
That feeling when you finally usurp power and find out that you can have these massive campaigns (to speed up the slow city siege type of combat), to finally conquer China is great.
Only thing that kinda breaks down is the somewhat rubbish AI sending you on dumb fetch-quests while the enemy is at the walls.

If only Paradox could mash up CK2 with that style of game, and have 30 player multiplayer :getin:

DW8 runs MUCH better on PC than it does on PS4. Any map that has fire brings the PS4 to its knees and split screen is basically unplayable. If you have a PC that can run this you're better off getting a controller and playing on PC.

Battle of Mt Xingshi I expect you mean. I had no trouble doing it on Normal mode, but with the frequency Cao Shuang is in trouble I can imagine this being a pain on higher difficulties. Just treat it like an escort mission basically, and if all else fails use interim saves to guarantee success.

Ah yes, this isn't so bad really. Play the stage normally until Cao Shuang appears. Take out the two sets of generals at the east and centre, and Cao Shuang will attempt to retreat, along with 3 other generals - this is your cue to use whatever means to take out all of the sub-generals and Cao Shuang himself. Pretty straightforward really, but you do have to be quick.

A whole one map where certain parts bring the game closer to 30 FPS than 60 is not bringing the PS4 to its knees. (Even though it shouldn't be happening at all and Omega Force are terrible when they're doing rushed ports. Or anything at all really.)

Killing them all isn't the problem. Killing them all without killing cap shuang is. Pop a few musous or a rage and he dies. Use normal attacks and he gets away. Let him get a safe lead before raging and he gets away.

I guess I'll just replay it on normal and steamroll. That's always an indicator of bad mission design, to me.

It must have been some good polish because it's a million times better than either Ken's Rage (so a billion times better than KR2).

I can't make that comparison since I haven't played the Gundam games, but the dodging and base-capping mechanics are both very reminiscient of Ken's Rage. Also, the tree-based advancement system, which is a welcome feature.
