It's a long story
There was a roguelike a few years back. It was being made by someone on these forums. It was post apocalyptic and I think the title came from what there were calling the area it took place in. You could be a normal human and get more skill points, or a mutant with various good and bad abilities. It was a pretty cool game but a little rough and I'd like to see where it's at now.

Ok, this one has been bugging me for pretty much my entire life. I know it's a long shot, given that I am trying to remember something from 30ish years ago and didn't see a lot of it to begin with but here goes.

It's a game on an early computer system (probably somewhere in the 1985-1987 range, unfortunately I do not know which one). It was a side scrolling game where you walked around and talked to people. The characters were, I believe, monochromatic and grey characters were the 'bad guys' in that if you talked to them they would abduct you and lock you in a house. The house was treated as the end of the game (or least that was how we treated it) but it was possible to escape it (albeit very difficult). It was the kind of game you could play in a library (as that was where I watched my cousin play it as I was not old enough). I believe it had a one word name and came with a gigantic map (so the gameplay I'm describing could be considered to be a very small part of the game as a whole, since we were never able to play it for significant periods of time).

This sounds a lot like Below The Root, though that's obviously not a single word title.

It definitely seems similar to what I remember. My memory of the name revolves around the name I saw on the map, so it might not be accurate. Thank you very much.

I just saw an article about the Delphine adventure game called Future Wars, which sparked a very vivid memory of a similar game in my mind.

So this was Amiga era, an adventure with extremely similar graphics to Future Wars, and also sort of a dystopian sci-fi settings. The thing is, there was apparently at least 8 games in this series, which sounds incredibly strange to me because you'd think it wouldn't be that hard to track down. Or it might have been an anthology game or something, but either way there were 8 different disks, each labeled with "Part X". I remember checking out all of them and each one was in a completely different setting, 3 was in a castle I think, but the one that I remember most was 8, which started you off on the arm of a gigantic Gort-like robot, and you could walk to its face where it would blast you with a laser.

I don't remember anything else about it, but that image is extremely vivid in my mind. I remember the robot being purple and the background being orange, and generally being super impressed by the graphics and scope of the game, but I haven't seen hide or hair of it since.

The only other series that even remotely fits this description is Space Quest, but I know it isn't that.

It's a great game, get a Commodore 64 emulator and go to town. The author, Zylpha Keatley Snyder, wrote three books about the world of GreenSky that are technically young adult lit but whatever. After writing the trilogy she felt like there were loose ends and more story to tell and reached out to people in the game industry because she thought a piece of interactive fiction would be the best way to end the series. The story has a ton of depth and a lot of care was put into it.

From what I remember (the first level at least) was a desert town environment and the enemies were dressed in a green/dark beige/ maybe even black for some. Sorry it's vague, I was very young. Probably 8 or under. (I was born in 93, if that helps.

I have a vague childhood memory of an arcade game from the 90s (could have been earlier in the US). The things I remember:
1) It was a fighting game. It was definitely not Street Fighter.
2) One character had a wolf as a sidekick and could order it to attack the opponent
3) Probably some Japanese samurai with sumo fighter hair.

That's all I remember. My google-fu was also weak.

So this one has been bugging me for the past few days: When I was younger (around 1997-1999) there was a mech game I would play on the PC at my babysitter's house. It had some pretty basic 3D graphics, and I remember the interiors of the mechs having quite a bit of detail for the time. The first level took place is some kind of desert, and you had to go kill this enemy blue mech (and it was really hard for a little kid to do). I also remember that you could climb out of your mech and walk around as a little pilot guy, and I think hijack other mechs?

For some reason when I think about this game I keep thinking about the phrase "Code 7" or "Level 7" or something like that. Certainly single digit integers were involved with the Start menu item I would click to run it. Any thoughts?

The one game from that time that immediately came to mind there, as far as being able to leave your mech is concerned, is G-Nome, although I'm not sure how well it matches your description otherwise.

There was an unrelated, slightly older (non-mech) shooter called Corridor 7; maybe some memories got conflated there?

There's a video of Time on Youtube, but the video title contains "Disk 1 of 2" which obviously doesn't tie up with the 8 disks memory.

E: Mind you, the scan of this review has a screenshot with an orange-ish future landscape. It's all very inconclusive, but might ring some bells.

Not sure this is the right thread for this as I'm trying to remember the name of a game that's not out yet (I don't think).

At the end of last year or begining of this year there was teaser for a new indie game that was like a spooky FPS where you are walking around an abandoned base on the moon(?) trying to figure out what went wrong. I think it was called reboot or rewind or re...something? I was really looking forward to it based on the trailer but I haven't heard or seen anything about it in a long time.
