To play devil's advocate: a single working person has to clean rather than work overtime or a second job or further training/career development. This is also sacrificing their ability to earn money working in a paid position to do work. Why are they not entitled to be paid for this work?

Mainly because a housewife does this work for their husband, not just themselves.

It's also why single parents are entitled to a bunch of welfare stuff. Not having someone to help you do this is a pain in the rear end.

The new “safe haven visas” would allow asylum seekers who meet a series of conditions and work in a regional area for three and a half years to potentially apply for further visas beyond this point.

This seems problematic, as most of the services that refugees rely on when they first arrive are going to be located in larger cities.

I know a lot of our regional towns are dying and there's maybe a good argument for resettling refugees there for a period, but every time I hear it it brings up a mental image of black slaves toiling away in the fields while the landowner sips mint julep on the porch.

Every Goon who is shitposts in Auspol is a Goon that this thread and forum has failed. No matter which threads they shitpost in be they Auspol, Let's Play or GBS they will all fit the same profile. Isolated, alienated people who we have dropped the ball on supporting.

Whenever anyone shitposts it is a tragedy, and Auspol certainly didn't deserve to get trolled. Nobody deserves to see Raptorfag's pony porn and nobody deserves to read IWC's posts, but the fact that these things happened don't reflect on anything about the goons involved but on how Auspol has let these people down. There are always going to be shitposts, and their shitposts will come out through one affiliation or another.

I don't think anyone defends the actions of someone who shitposts. I also don't think we can go KILL YOU ARE SELF whenever Mills or A Magical Unicorn posts either. We need to look at the actions we can take to prevent this stuff happening in the future, and realising that it's not a problem with any particular forum or thread, it's a problem that we're producing these people who are drawn to shitposting.

"It reinforced this wider narrative of Muslims as criminals ... and I'm very cynical about the government's decision to politicise these raids," she added.

Counter terrorism expert and academic Ms Aly said "all terrorism is theatre and all counter-terrorism is theatre, so yes, [the raids were] a manufactured spectacle".

Police have swarmed an Islamic school in western Sydney after reports of an intruder threatening staff and students with a knife.

Officers were called to Al-Faisal College in Minto on Thursday afternoon amid reports that an armed man had entered school grounds and was asking if it was a Muslim school.

Police said the man entered the school on Benham Road about 2.10pm, spoke with a female staff member and left a short time later. He was last seen on Kitson Road.

They had reported a man running onto school grounds, asking if it was a "Muslim school" and then pulling out a knife and threatening a teacher and students.

Considering it's a complete backflip on his previous rhetoric implying he had concern for the human rights of refugees, I think we can pretty reliably predict that in a couple of weeks he'll be in favour of university fee deregulation and slashing social security as well.

E: or maybe not slashing social security, since he was on the dole once and therefore can vaguely remember how hard a life it was to be unemployed, even though the dole amount was much less cruel back in his day.

He's done this on pretty much every issue you can name, most recently the whole veterans' children fund thing, but no-one ever seems to call him out for any of it - the only journalists who might conceivably do it are all too jaded to stress the point, I guess.

I work with a taekwondo instructor who instructs with a Muslim bloke from Melbourne's eastern burbs who is pretty devout and active in his community. From conversations with him and information I've gotten from other sources, it seems there is something of a schism forming in the Islamic community around the Dandenong area.

Phone posting from work so can't really elaborate a lot but there are plenty of people from within this community who have approached authorities about questionable activities at certain mosques in the Dandenong area. The surveillance and cancelling of passports were possibly as a result of insider tip offs and moderate Islamic persons are sick of both being painted as extremists by the media but also from apparent 'rogue teachings' by certain scholars.

Its the problem with a radicalising community, and regular people who go to school, work, play sport etc who practice the same faith are denounced as collaberators.

I don't think Australia has really done intergration that well, and its more happened from benign neglect and the racism moving onto the next new arrival community.

Absolutely not defending it, but they make an easy target for a weak government who are desperate for additional terms of service.

It's right out of GWB's playbook.
