Redoing poo poo is daunting, and not keeping some of the post-game unlocked characters until you make it to end-game again and re-do their 'recruitment' missions is a little disappointing. I would personally enjoy the piss-poor continuity involved with putting Tyrant Valvatorez through the base game.

What was your team/strategy for Axel mode? I'm nearing the end of the DHD campaign and about to start Axel mode when I'm done. My highest level is about 80 but I've relied almost entirely on story characters with no generics, so I feel like Axel mdoe is going to be rough on me. I'm fine with spending a long time in item world though.

It's been a long time since I played but it's generally good to work on leveling these guys:
- a skull and mage so that you get the top tier of both and can use them to teach their magic to others
- healer for the same reason
- heavy knight because they're good for soaking damage. I had my heavy knight learn heals/espoir from my healer. You might also want to make one or two of these guys just to use for throwing your other guys across the map.
- ninja because the only thing better than soaking damage is not getting hit in the first place
- thief because her status effects are OP as hell and stealing legendary items from enemies is important
- kunoichi because she gets status effect attacks too and they're ranged
- magic knight can become the best at damage dealing spells in the long run
- geomancer with a fist weapon to move gate guardians in the item world
DHD lets you use Magichange but I didn't really do much with monster characters. Since Disgaea 2 has some really powerful evilities, I'm sure there are some good magichange combos that I never took advantage of.

edit: Also have you been collecting felonies? One of the single most important things in Disgaea 2 is to throw towers of characters into the court gate so they all get the felonies. A nice side effect of leveling those generics is that they will all start to get subpoenas for having high levels, doing high damage, etc. and the higher-end crimes give a higher felony count.

I guess I'm the only one who super digs the standard mage? Having a 3x3 aoe with I think 9 range is just too good for me to pass up. And the 7 aoe is also very useful, having 11 effective range or something like that. I haven't played d3 or 4 yet (gonna go through all 4 on vita, still doing 1st now), but in both 1 and 2 they have very good damage that's really easy to deliver from ridiculously far away, and they're available from level 1. And once you unlock star (level 5 in d1, chuuboss is level 6 :v:), you just destroy everything. My other characters are literally only there to put the last hit on any enemies that might have too high res to get one hit, and not enough hp left to warrant another ~Omega Star~.

The only issue is early game, when you sometimes get your mage killed in a single turn, but putting the best muscle you get from hospital rewards tends to solve the issue for me 99% of the time.

Mages/skulls are great. In some of the harder maps in any Disgaea game, you pretty much need a powerful mage with good range to get anywhere (sniping geo symbols or hard-to-reach enemies). It is hard to get a mage started early on. I like leveling staves to give them an early damage advantage. Even just doing 10 levels in a cheap staff can make a new mage's life a lot easier.

Alternatively, do some item-worlding and find a good map with an invincible panel, combine all the enemies into one by throwing, then tower-attack to kill it. The result is that you get a LOT more money than if you'd killed them one by one, allowing you to unlock high shop levels. Bonus points if the map also has level-up panels.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I quite literally spend all my HL on better and better staves during the first playthrough and then some. Getting the first ones to level 10 is a breeze, but later on when it's more of a chore I just start buying them instead. I start doing item world once I'm higher in item ranks again, when it's more of a boost to stats than just buying the next highest tier out of shop.

I think there are a bunch of people who can create trailing images. I know some who could do this as if they were just going out for a stroll.

Mithaldu posted:

Basically: The sprites are images. The images were meant for screens with low resolutions, where they looked fine. Put the same images on a high-resolution screen and they look super-jaggy and blocky. Since they couldn't afford to actually add new sprites for the older games they added a filter to blur the sprites, instead of having them be blocky. They didn't have two sets of sprites or anything, it's the same images. Only you got to choose whether they were blurred or not on your bigger screen.

No, Disgaea 4 PS3 actually had a set of "low-res" sprites along with the new ones.

It always seemed like a pointless feature to me since the new sprites look fantastic.

Getting the one-off trophies for viewing the endings can be handled that way, but when you reload from the save you won't have 'credit' for it at the stat manager. I am at a second cycle's post game right now, and when I have a couple 4,000+'s built up, I'm going to use a gamefaq guide, burn through plot maps and knock them out one after the other.

I really hate Ep.4 though. Not looking forward to having to do it so many more times. It has a couple missions I hate having to do, and I swear the game knows it and fucks with me by putting treasure chests from interrogated monsters in those maps all the time.

Nah it didn't have slowdown nearly as bad (the floor 100 chugs in EVERY game) but that's about it.

This is really helpful, thanks. I've read that Axel mode starts at level 100 if you complete the main story first.

I only did the felony that I had to do for the storyline though, and don't really get what they do.

It can't hurt to use your main story characters to help level the generics. I don't think you can completely get stuck though. If the Axel story maps get too hard just spend some time repeating maps or doing item worlds of items that aren't too difficult.

Felonies have several effects. The main effect is that they multiply the amount of experience a character gets, like Statisticians in all the other Disgaea games. This maxes out at 300 felonies. Felonies also affect how much the Dark Assembly likes a character who is making a proposal, and they affect Rosen Queen shop prices (the prices are based on the character with the highest felony count.)

Since it takes a lot of subpoenas to get to 300 felonies, you can make things a little faster by always throwing a tower of characters into the court gate so they all get the felonies at once. It doesn't matter if the character who did the crime is in the tower or not, the Dark Court gives zero fucks. Also never do the item world of a subpoena because subpoenas by themselves don't do anything. Move the Bailiff specialist from the subpoena onto a piece of equipment so you actually get some benefit from doing those item world levels.

I don't remember about Disgaea 1, but is it possible, that the game (at least the main story with Adell) isn't so hard?

I am now in Chapter 8 at every battles was quite easy.
Beside Adell and Rozy I am just using generics.

I don't think Disgaea 2 is very hard or anything from what I remember, but Adell probably makes things way easier since 130% HP aptitude combined with fists gaining weapon mastery super fast turns him into a monster with very little effort. I think Chapter 8 is approximately the point where the game steps it up regarding Geo Panels and enemy setups though. You can always try using an Increase Enemy Strength bill at the senate though.

It's amazing how fast D4 Vita picks up once you can clear Mt. Ordeal 4 the first time. Three gameplay hours ago I had one character over 400, and now I can get any monster up to 2000 in like 10 minutes by fusing them to Gig and having him oneshot an Enemy Level 20 MO4 a few times with 450% experience. Getting some humanoid characters to the point that they can do that is the next step. Does using a Giant Magichange staff increase your spell aoe? Or is Giant Fist Big Bang the only way for human generics to get that big diamond size you need?

--If you're putting off the endings trophies run, don't. Once you get a save on your second cycle at 10-6 UNCLEARED, you'll have all the trophies in about an hour and then you're free to go kill zetta or whatever. And speaking of him,

No, no. You don't need to go all the way up to 20 stars. I think the Nekomata there crosses the 1000 mark at around 4 or 5 (I forget which offhand.)

Otherwise, correct. You're also going to want to make a Bio Suit. I recommend making 9 of them, though. That way once you've duped it a few times you can dupe faster.

Does having the Nekomata be higher level increase the chances of it being a not garbage treasure? I can easily one-shot 20 star enemies most of the time now. I even accidentally cleared up through to floor 20 of a helios staff while in 20 stars (I don't recommend this)!

Just to confirm, in D4V, the only way to get new specials (the Giga elements specifically) onto a story character (Archangel Flonne, specifically) is to Chara World them from someone in the same Symbol one at a time, right? What a bother.

At least thanks to the cheat shop, the mana-sharing pyramid, and a Manager on his weapon, Gig clearing 20-star MO4 gives another character about 65000 mana per run. My main Skull has all four elements in base, Mega, Omega, and Peta forms at +8 each. He can't even cast a 9-square Peta element yet, it costs more SP than he has.
