I am super conflicted because on the one hand, Revoltech made Pat Lee's Optimus Prime, which is by far the worst Revoltech I've ever owned, but they also made Pat Lee's Megatron, which is by far the best Revoltech I've ever owned.

CONFLICTED

Seriously it's so loving weird how night and day they are, Optimus looks like a gangly misproportioned freak in any pose, while Megatron can be in pretty much any pose and look like a maniacal badass. They're both stay puft marshmallowey but it doesn't hamper Megs.

You'd be surprised how much of a difference the giraffe neck makes. The differences are subtle but significant. For example, the thighs have different movement limits, Prime's thighs don't have the same range as Megs's because of the little bits that angle around the Revoltech joint(he's not able to stand up perfectly straight without pulling the Revoltech joints out of the sockets a bit, for example). The ankles are more exposed than Megs which look off in most poses, and Megs's feet are molded so that they can angle extremely well while still being able to be flat on surfaces and retain a natural looking connection to the leg. Prime's boob-windows and puffed upper torso and hips in relation to his abdomen make him look comical, while Megs has more bulk and so preserves his proportions better. Megs has a similar neck-thing to Prime, however it's built into the torso rather than on top of it, which gives him good head articulation without looking like some kind of flamingo-man. The detailing on Megs is also overall higher than Prime with better paint apps as well, and his face in particular has a great evil grin on it. His shoulders are larger and less cube-like than Prime's, which adds to his bulk. Prime's shoulder Revoltech joints point outwards while Megatron's are set so that they're not inside the torso itself, but rather attached to indentations in the upper side corners of each shoulder, as can be seen in the photo. This gives him vastly superior articulation to Prime.

It's lots of little things that add up to huge differences. Megatron could have easily been as bad as Prime if he'd had, for example, similar thigh design which would have ruined his excellent articulation.

Yeah, all of those little liberties they took with him made a lovely package. But that Movie Prime... drat I need it. Though every time I get a Revoltech I hate myself for shelling out $50 for a 5 inch figure who's joints I really don't like all that much. :(

Where are you buying Revoltechs for 50 dollars? Granted they might've gone up in recent years, but I never paid more than 35 for them, and that was for stuff like Hypergalactic Dreadnought Gurren Lagann.

A more detailed example of what I was talking about, with images.

Prime, giraffe neck, ridiculous boob windows, and bad shoulder articulation. Also, :pwn:face

Megatron, with the in-torso neck which can be compressed, shoulder joints that can be hidden(twist the shoulders forward a little and you can't see the joints from the front at all, without compromising articulation), and have way better range of motion.

Honestly, just compare the promotional shots of the two and it's pretty easy to see which was the better design.

Another thing I noticed is that Prime, in any pose, always looks like he just got punched in the gut. He ALWAYS looks hunched forward because of how the torso/abdomen work. It's just bad.

edit: Slog isn't too terrible a figure, I was expecting a lot worse. He's pretty drat imposing in robot mode, gorilla arms be damned, and with the kinda goofy equipment he has, it can be put on him in such a way to give him a real Guncannon-esque look. His transforming is...weird at best, and fairly awkward, and his dino mode isn't great but sure looks nice from the front. I'd say he's an okay figure, the weakest of the dinobots I've gotten so far, though I've not bought Grimlock or the weird teal and green thing yet.

Leader Jetfire is a joy and Classics Jetfire is good. If you had to go with one, get Leader Jetfire, he's seriously one of the best Transformers in years. The transformation is both functionally amazing, easy to learn, intuitive, and most importantly fun to do, I've flipped him back and forth from jet to bot mode a half dozen times already. It's not the most complicated transformation out there, but it doesn't really have to be, what's there is well-designed and fun to fiddle with. You could complain about lack of paint apps or the hollowness, but honestly in this day and age that's just something you've got to deal with with Transformers.

Classics Jetfire is fun but way too bulky and stiff, he has fun gimmicks but I feel like it doesn't live up to its potential.

Also there's plenty of Classics Jetfires available on Ebay for 20-40 dollars, complete. That's a fair price considering he was what, 20-25 retail?

I haven't seen one under $55 in a long time, including today. And I actually like the Hasbro release better than the Takara one, for the cockpit. I'm mostly just pissed at myself for selling mine several years ago, along with my Classics Ultra Magnus (before they announced the City Commander armor and the prices skyrocketed).

I also prefer smaller Transformers, just due to prices and limited display space. I don't buy anything bigger than Voyager, and I only have two of those anymore (plus MP-01 Optimus Prime, which I'm trying to sell).
