Layer on MS-DOS series: 1, 2/2.1, 3/3.1/for Workgroups 3.11, 95/95A/95B/95C, 98/98SE, ME NT series: NT 3.1, NT 3.5/3.51, NT 4.0 (branched interface from 95), 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8/8.1 By that reckoning, 7 and 8 really were the 7th and 8th in the NT line.
