Although they have nerfed dilithium earnings from STFs a tad, since Advanced - the equivalent of the current Elite - will only drop 480 and new super Elite drops 960.

Well you're not supposed to earn dilithium you know. What do you think that exchange is for? :v:

The Aquarius is now a neat little beamscort, it can match the boff slots of the vet ship/jhec/scimitar. The lack of a 7th weapon will hurt it, but maybe the flanking plus the flanking specialization passive could help it out?

About that flanking - how exactly do you find the rear arc of a cube or sphere?

If you look on the hud that shows the target's health/shields, there will always be a little triangle on the arc you are firing at. The "rear" arc of anything will be that bottom arc.

Huh, I pretty much only fly the Nebula, Vesta and D'Kyr so that's pretty nice. Give me a Fleet D'Kyr with a bit more tac (or a Fleet Vesta :getin:) and I'll be happy.

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

I'm still amazed there hasn't been a fleet D'kyr yet. I figured it was some weird license thing, but then they go and add a T5U version, so if it was that then why would they renegotiate another use of the ship but not a fleet version too? :psyduck:

At least the ensign universal makes it a lot more useful.

So I figured I'd get back into this game after all the new changes/content that's been added but I got a quick question for any of you more knowledgeable. Would the Kar'fi I apparently bought be at all effective on a romulan Tac captain, or is that thing completely useless now?

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

Well, it's more it would be useless because it's a klingon ship, and Romulans can't use T5+ ships of the other factions. :v:

Figures. Are there any carrier ships for Romulan that are any good or am I better off with a warbird covered in cannons?

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

Romulans don't really get full carriers no, outside of the faction-agnostic lockbox and lobi ones. Closest are the one-hangar-bay Scimitar (cruiseresque) or Ar'kif (escort).

Well poo poo. I've been pleasantly surprised by most of the changes, but this kind of kills grinding my 8K a day (per toon) since it'll be more dependent on jumping in with competent pubbies. I don't have time or interest for a doubled timesink.

I don't know the general consensus, but I put my KDF contra generator in a fleet Ar'kif which has turned out to be a fun ship. It's kind of an escort carrier hybrid that does pretty well with a little finesse. I just did it for the Hell of it, but I may actually upgrade it to T5U if the Dilithium nerf doesn't motivate me to go try Archage.

Both of those are really drat good though, and in the case of the Scimitar objectively best-in-class.

Is the Scimitar really all that? I almost got it instead of the Ar'kif because I hear that so often, but it's just such a goddamn ugly design.

Cryptic are Cryptic, so naturally the best ship in the game looks loving abysmal.

I still maintain there's some weird licensing agreement that stated the Scimitar had to include everything seen on screen in Nemesis, so... here's what you wound up with.

(Although Recluse+Mesh Weavers is a better ship anyway.)

5 tac consoles, 5 forward weapons, useful boff seating, some of the best pets in the game, a battle-cloak. The inertia's a little high, but practice will take care of that. The only real downside is that it's fragile which is exacerbated by the fact that you will have all the aggro unless you're flying with a bunch of other BFAW scimitars. So yeah, it really is all that.

Psycho Landlord

And even then, that's barely an issue because of it's bullshit battle cloak. The only real downside is it's terrible broadside profile, meaning you have to pay a little bit more attention than normal to your flying if you beamboat it.

Xean has reached new heights in narcissism and a new pathetic low at the same time. Instead of spending all his time parading around in his usual terrible Omega gear, he now has his character not only named after himself, but matching his face IRL as close as the game can handle. The sheer amount of time he must have spent tweaking that horrible face must have been staggering.

Cutting beam and an omni beam from crafting means that I only lose 1 beam if I mess up the broadside. Speaking of which, I can craft omni beams if anyone wants one, but the mats are expensive enough you probably won't save any money vs. just buying one from the AH.

I'm debating 5x Spinal Waves vs 4x Spinal Waves and 1x Omni-disruptor for my Vesta. Obviously the sixth slot would be a cutting beam either way.

Not really. The Sphere episodes actually relate more to the New Romulus adventure zone storyline and it's corresponding Romulan Rep storyline (what there is of it) than the Romulan story arc.

They have some niche uses for being a dick in PVP. If you're just running PVE and gearing up just ignore them entirely.

You want the lockbox trait that makes mines have 100% more seek distance, and also Omega Kinetic Shearing. Then they can be worth using.

Make sure to report him for his inappropriate ship name. As a visionary and tyrant with an exhaustive list of rules and regulations regarding his own fleet, I'm sure he will understand the need to conform to PWE's terms of service in its entirety.

^^^ You could roll a klink and get one of their carriers, or you could roll a romulan and get a scimitar (which only has one hangar and isn't really a carrier), or buy the caitian carrier (don't do this, we will laugh and call you a furry), or buy a lockbox carrier off the exchange. However you do it you're going to want to focus on getting equipment for a beam boat, because carriers turn way too slow to use cannons.

Baron Porkface posted:

I suppose if you were trying to infiltrate a pubbie fleet and wanted to fit in you could go for a mines and torpedoes build. Make sure to load up with clicky consoles and consoles which don't actually buff anything you're using for added verisimilitude.

An exception for your carrier if you like front-facing science powers and don't want to have to worry about "mixing" beams and cannons is to go single cannon/turret (if you don't have the turn to support a dual beam bank build). If you do, just make sure it has the tactical boff slots to support it.

Are there any tricks to finding a boff that'll train Ambush Rank 3 onto another, or do I need to spend half an hour on the exchange going through tactical officer tooltips one by one.
