Anyone who plays in more than 30% of a team's games is ineligible for a medical redshirt. If he has played 4 or more games his season is over and can't be recovered.

Didn't Keeton take a medical redshirt last year anyway? I'm not sure if they'll do two years in a row for anybody.

That's right, I remember a guy at Houston a few years ago applied for a medical redshirt and it was really important that we make it to a bowl game that year for the 30% figure. We did and he was granted another year of eligibility. Then that year he broke or tore something else and that was it for his career.

You can have a redshirt and a medical redshirt(allowing 6 years to play 4) but I don't think you can medical redshirt 2 times regardless. You can redshirt for injury a second time after a medical redshirt but it'd have to be in the preseason and would just be a regular redshirt and not a medical one. If you had the medical redshirt already but no regular redshirt and then played and got hurt, you'd lose that season and not be able to do anything about it. The NCAA can make exceptions, of course, but I think if you're injured in a season in two separate years you're just screwed. Postseason games don't count unless I'm unaware(because this would weigh more in favor of better schools in sports with long playoff systems) but conference championship games do. Being that it's Houston it was probably the CUSA title game. Crotch Bat fucked around with this message at 03:47 on Oct 2, 2014 |

Jason White is an example of the 6th year exception as well but his was an extreme case. It's not unheard of to get a 6th year but they certainly reject their fair share of cases and you just don't hear about them unless you're a fan of that team or player.

VDay posted:http://ucla.scout.com/story/1458506-statistical-analysis-rankings-of-pac-12?s=12 I wonder what WSU's yards per stop look like if you remove the picks,we're putting up like 550 yards a game so it certainly says something about how much we shoot ourselves in the foot that we fall to the middle of the pack in that stat. the points thing is unsurprising because we have so many drives sputter out in the red zone. I'm actually hopeful though, because this is the first time in years where I've seen continuous improvement from game to game; we played the hell out of oregon and after a nightmare 1st quarter against utah they got their heads straight and stuck it out. that Leach timeout , where he brought the whole team together for a huddle right after we went 21-0 in the 1st quarter of that game, seemed like magic. I wonder if he's softened his personality or if it's just something about the group of guys (benching seniors who've been playing like poo poo in favor of underclassmen who are performing). whatever it is he seems to have really connected with them and the whole team is on the same page now. it rules and I'm hopeful for an upset win at some point. i still don't expect us to pull out 4 more wins from our schedule, but it's certainly possible if we perform to the level we did against oregon. which is another point, the stadium renovations make it look way more professional than years past, and the height of the new suite/press box area helps carry a lot more sound to the field. it rules and the gameday atmosphere is as good as it's been in over a decade – even going into the oregon game when we were assuming we we're gonna get turbofucked. everyone was genuinely excited to watch and it was fully sold out, and as we proceeded to take them down to the wire the crowd energy ramped way the gently caress up and it was rad as all hell wheez the roux fucked around with this message at 04:11 on Oct 2, 2014 |

Utah State has 13 games scheduled this year since they play at Hawaii, so 4 games would be under the threshold I think. However, there are a lot of reports that he won't be applying for a medical redshirt, though most of them are dated before Utah State's announcement.

UCLA linebacker Kenny Orjioke out for the rest of the year with a torn ACL We have pretty good linebacker depth but losing him still hurts. He'll apparently miss next year's spring practice as well so hopefully it's not a serious enough injury to prevent him from playing altogether.

He also talked to several bag men from several different schools, too. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, because I think it's naive to think it doesn't happen at just about every major program. But the investigation has nothing to do with Hugh Freeze or his fantastic recruiting classes, so I'm not too concerned at this point.

Stunt Rock posted:Wasn't the Godfrey longform completely anonymous and pretty much bereft of identifiers? Yes, and although he is an Ole Miss Alum he is from Atlanta originally and currently lives in Nashville. He's pretty well connected to a lot of people in sports journalism and has reported from football games all over the country. I follow him on Twitter, and read his articles when he was still writing for our campus newspaper the Daily Mississipian. He's always had a...conflicted relationship with the Ole Miss athletic department, he did a guest column criticizing Coach Ed Orgeron that was pretty funny: http://www.thelocalvoice.net/TLV-pages/columns/stevengodfrey/SG-TLV34.php That said, while I'm glad that this investigation is not related to the current team, I'm under no illusions about how things work down here, and the rest of the country for that matter. I'd just like us to have one or two really good seasons before the other shoe inevitably drops. Also, everyone should follow Godfrey on Twitter, he's not an SEC homer, and he's generally doing some of the best journalism on college football right now.
