Seems like the kind of thing you might be able to do with a big electric motor and a lithium ion battery or a super capacitor these days. Congrats, your top fueler is now a hybrid.

Is that tire popped? What's wrong with it?
|
# ? Oct 2, 2014 14:54 |

Nope! Nothing is wrong with it. It's called a "wrinkle wall" slick. The flexing makes it easier for the tire to maintain grip.

Well, Hemi + Blower => Supercharged power - supercharger running "costs" Hemi + Blower /w aux engine => Supercharged power He made (huge guess) 80hp while adding 50kg. I'm pretty sure he meant no parasitic loss from the supercharger. However, I do wonder if the elimination of power draw from the supercharger literally outweighs the weight from the additional engine.

xzzy posted:They also used the engine-powering-an-engine concept on the F-1 engine used to lift the Apollo rockets. That _is_ the fuel pump. It's a 55,000HP turbine that burns rocket fuel. Its exhaust runs around the rocket cone to cool the cone and protect it from the main rocket exhaust. The reason the motor needs a pump that strong is because there's no way to flow fuel by gravity from the tank, even under 3g of acceleration. That's right, this engine sucks more gas than can fall out of the bottom of a 33-foot-wide tank. So the tank is pressurized from the top and fuel is sucked from the bottom. The first stage burns five MILLION pounds of fuel in under three minutes. That's why the fuel pump is so badass. In other news, the Saturn V first stage (S-IC) produces almost two million horsepower in noise on liftoff according to some plaque at KSC.
