Is there some trick to winning as France? If I remember right, Germany has way more IC and can just straight up steamroll you if they feel like. The AI UK is always useless in Paradox games so they don't help.

Create a strong defensive line against the German border made of modern infantry with artillery attachments. Build up a strong mobilised force and place them behind the line ready to reinforce where necessary or exploit weaknesses in the German line. Get some mountain troops ready to invade the Pope together with your southern Italian allies. Build some marines because they're cool and you'll need them to invade Canada with your British allies :anarchists:. When war comes, invade Flanders and North Italy. If you're careful you might be able to force a breakthrough into West Germany or alternatively you can push up through North Italy into Austria and then Bavaria, forcing Germany to relocate its forces (if you're not at war with Austria what are you doing, you must bring the world revolution comrade!). If UoB forces come into the war their forces can be helpful to stabilise the Flanders front.

Speaking of KR, how's that going these days? I'd like to get back into it but the issues with some of the events where sometimes nations just hit a dead end (eg Japan, Russia) have me waiting for new updates.

Not well, I'm afraid. I've kind of lost my passion for the mod and the most of the other devs haven't posted on Skype or the forums in months. I'm holding out hope for this one India expansion a guy's been working on, but the mod kind of feels dead.

Sorry to hear that but it's totally understandable. It's actually pretty amazing that it got to the advanced state it's currently at, really, given how many people have been working on it over the years.

I like Warlock well enough. It plays like a more basic Civ5 in a fantasy setting. I've played more of Warlock: Master of the Arcane more than Warlock 2, but it's biggest flaw seems to be lackluster AI for your rival Warlocks. Still fun carving your territory out of a hostile world.

I think my favourite game of KR was the American Syndicalists, in the 2nd ACW. I wouldn't say it was near impossible but it felt hard. The feeling when extra militia (which suits the US I guess) was produced, or infantry granted via the socialist congress, was fantastic. Even small things like seizing the US's old inter war strategic bombers, helped a lot. American Pacific almost cost me the North East by landing in Florida and launching constant attacks on NYC etc.

I guess the other fun playthrough was playing as Canada and getting into the mother of all battleship fights with the Union of Britain, near the Gibraltar strait. RN ships having their own personal and bloody Jutland.

What are other excellent KR nations to play in terms of content and things to do?

I'm playing Victoria 2 as the Worker's Commonwealth (communist UK), and I've been releasing a bunch of nations to drive down my infamy and fuel my conquest of Europe. My released nations start off as communist, but then after a week or two they suddenly switch to other government types--usually democracies--without any kind of revolution taking place. Any countries that're still touching my territory remain communist (I controlled about 75% of Spain and released Catalonia, which stayed commie). Is it supposed to work this way, and if so, why? I was terribly disappointed when all the cool flags got replaced with their boring real life counterparts.

They are probably falling prey to this event which switches a country to democracy after a single liberalisation of voting rights, upper house composition and political parties.

code:
country_event = {

		civilized = yes
		NOT = {
			political_parties = underground_parties
			vote_franschise = none_voting
			upper_house_composition = party_appointed

	mean_time_to_happen = {
		months = 1
	}

	option = {
		name = "EVTOPTA60050"

If you want to mod it so it only hits independent countries, add is_vassal = no after civilized = yes (it's in \events\CleanUp.txt line 125)

That's not even remotely true. V2 was fairly bug free, just not much of a game. HoI3 at launch was buggy as hell and also not much of a game. Paradox absolutely learned a lot of lessons from HoI3 and as a result V2 released in a much better state. They didn't get up to CK2 or EU4 levels of quality for release, but V2 wasn't an embarrassment.

V2 was 'this will be great with some love and care', HoI3 was 'this has fundamental issues'. Back then we had an expectation it would take an expansion or two to iron out the kinds of issues V2 had.

Light-hearted trolling of their own fan community aside, I think Rome II is pretty much an inevitability at some point. My money on the next major game PDS develops after HoI4 is to be either V3 or R2.

Shangqing Tianguo are loads of fun at least up to the point where you've united China. The first war against the Qing was super satisfying for me.

Union of Britain is pretty good too, you basically get the WW2 UK experience of landing in France to help fight Germany except without having to worry about colonies.

Didn't the lead CK2 dev also say he hoped this never happened? I think it would be really cool to have full-featured Asia in CK2 but it would take a LOT of new mechanics to make sense and adding all those provinces would be technically challenging, given how people are already having trouble with Rajas.

I think this was a joke from a stream. The question was asked to the CK2 lead if they were going to go into China and he said he didn't want to. The interviewer said "Well, you're in charge, so it's up to you," and the lead said something like "Actually, it's up to Johan..." before trailing off forebodingly.

It's really difficult for me to imagine them actually expanding the game to China. The map is already huge and the game noticeably slower with India. But then again, I would have doubted them expanding to India, so... V:shobon:V

They should make a separate game for China and East Asia in general a la Sengoku :getin:

But they should hire some people who are really good at understanding Chinese notions of empire, because an East Asia game would be less a group of disparate and unrelated players than it would be a game about a bunch of players skirting around the giant in the room. In fact, if they nailed a china game really well then they could pretty reasonably do a late roman empire / dark ages game.

Exactly this. It's just too broad a concept to pull off well. I've never seen a game do it better than Shadow President, and that game falls apart to its own bugs within a decade or so of play.

Feeling pretty much the same way. Hoping V3 is first so the entire grand campaign is up to Clausewitz 2.0 standards (that and Vicky is my favorite :3:) before they muck about with Rome which is a bit of an aside unless they get really ambitious about linking it to the grand campaign (CK2 keeps creeping closer :shobon:).

I learned how to play using the Platinean War scenario in HoI2, I recommend trying a smaller war like that or the miniwars available in KR.

I've spent all day at work thinking about it and I'm thinking having the CSA LP split into three general parts or acts (civil war being the first one, then two other ones depending on how the game works out) if you will and having two smaller games acting as almost intermissions and palette cleansers. Qing and La Plata are what I'm thinking now. Then if I'm feeling sparky or somebody else wants to do other nations after that, all the better.

This sounds like an awesome idea. I think my favorite HoI game was when I played as the CSA for the first time. Trying to survive the three months it takes to get your first round of militia built is really harrowing.
