How about a Mustang II that definitely has 400 HP? http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/4690063519.html

And I don't really know much about Mustangs, but something makes me think this isn't a legit SVT Cobra: https://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/4690331929.html

Why not? looks ok to me. Look under the rear end and see if it's solid axle or IRS, most people who fake Cobras won't change to the IRS. Or there are also people who remove the IRS from an actual Cobra because they have half a brain.

Didn't the cobras have the mustang badges on the grill swapped for a cobra? GIS says no, I must be misremembering. Otherwise it looks close enough.

Truth. $1k gets you a GC coilover conversion with Koni SAs on an E36, which is exceptional for the price. Obviously another $400 for camber plates on top of that but you don't need them for a street car, though BMWs love additional camber.

Welded diff isn't as terrible as everyone makes it out to be, but a LSD for these things only costs $250-350 anyway.

I wouldn't pay $4k for that car... maybe $3k. Then beat on it until it dies.

In that year it just means it has a torque converter like setup between the clutch and engine. It basically won't stall, but you still need to shift and clutch it to do so.

It looks off to me for some reason but maybe it's just the yellow, that I've never seen a Cobra in before, and lovely photography.

I thought they all had Cobras in the grill too but judging by some Googling I may be mistaken.

Tried the 'obvious misspelling' trick on ebay. If you ignore the 'lol V6' in the description, this one might be worth checking out:

Sub-$8k 986 Boxster. Old enough that the IMS bearing wasn't an issue and with enough miles that if it had bum cylinder liners, it'd've blown up already. The interior looks really well kept and the non-working convertible top can be put into manual mode in 10 minutes with one screwdriver so long as it's not frame damage that's keeping it from working (unlikely, it's probably a known-wonky $100 sensor).

You too can feel like an internet bubble tycoon for small money.

Most tufftrucks look like that? They usually run them as the opening act of a monster truck show.
e: but yeah you basically have to be on meth to compete in that sort of event, those trucks exist for the purpose of turning the human spine into a fine paste

Ah, I didn't realize it was a real thing. Still, a grand for a motor-less truck that's been used (pretty hard, by the look of it) for jumps?

Turbo Fondant

Most of those trucks are desert pre-runners or full-out race trucks. Ain't no tire shop out in the desert. They weren't built for stadium events. The suspension is tuned for the weight of the spares. Without them the truck would want to do a frontflip.

Comedy option: find somebody whose name is Lidio Lacobelli, Donnie Yen or Brian Kibler but is not a Mustang specialty shop owner, Chinese actor or trading card game designer (a la Taco Bell's Ronald McDonald campaign) and... well still get raped because an SW20 has to be a lot better than that to fetch that kinda coin.

Well if you can manage to get aluminum heads, and the right exhaust for the 5.0 then it only weighs about 50lbs more than that iron block 2.3/2.5l
Even using the stock 4cyl engine mounts, that v8 sits pretty low and far back.
You do wind up with a bit more weight on the front wheels, but the center of gravity is lowered.

Any improvements are completely negated by the increase in torque though. It's basically a donut factory.
