I'm probably going to disappoint myself but I'm actually hoping that Wu turns out to be more keen then he lets on. Mako is a capable investigator and honourable to a fault, he's absolutely the best person for Wu to trust in protecting his life and providing him with decent advice and knows the Avatar.

Wu is being treated as an amusing loser. Generally, the comic-relief characters tend to fare better and get treated with more sympathy even if they're evil (hi, Varrick!).

Varrick did turn out to be a keen survivalist though, he's pretty much in the inner circle of who is probably going to end up ruling the Earth Kingdom.

I have avoided the previews, but I am guessing Toph will train someone, Korra or Lin I guess, to "see" the way Toph can, through vibrations. Then when Kuvira uses her flying metal slap bracelets to blind them, they'll beat her through the power of unexpected feet-seeing.
They're metal-benders. They don't need to see in the dark, they can just get the metal bands of their eyes, or better yet, simply dodge them.

I hope the third episode is the Team Avatar reunion, hopefully things aren't too strange between them.
I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. From the trailer, it seems that Korra is reunited with Mako and Asami but that Bolin isn't with them. I don't think that he will join them immediately.

It's too small to show up on the map, but they do have the adjacent Chin Village. (The peninsula just under the red circle in the above image... Kyoshi Island is right beside that.)

If Chin couldn't get Kyoshi Island, Kuvira won't. She also skipped The Swamp too. I'm sure she saw all that hippy crap and decided to slowly back away.

Korra should be heading into the Swamp this season according to the trailer. Maybe this will coincide with Kuvira trying to take over the area.

There's nothing cool about it unless there is some complex plan going on in the background, and every season of Korra so far has proved that there isn't. Clearly evil person acts somewhat benevolent, then becomes cartoonishly evil at a certain point.

They could surprise us and have Kuvira take over a majority of the Earth kingdom, create a highly effective and regulated police state that the other nations don't like and create a world wide political conflict, but I doubt it. Korra's going to go through her hero's journey to recover her confidence, Kuvira is going to become military dictator and attack the other nations, and Korra will stop her.

Could be. The trailer also shows airbenders (I think Tenzin's kids) crashing into the swamp (as part of a search party for Korra?). They may just find her and convince her to go confront Kuvira.

Missed Opportunity #102: Bumi was seriously mishandled. He could have retained his rank and headed a joint UR-WL escort service. Doing that would have given us real family tension (Bumi wouldn't be invited), a hint at what its like when the military does favors while going off the book and it could have given Asami a excuse to have purpose outside of bankrolling every single fieldtrip and playing Korra's PR assistant.

Bumi didn't have to retire. He could have just been given a token garrison to defend the last airbenders in existence. Instead they made him 100% a burden who had one purpose: complain about his daddy issues. After that was done they took away the weight behind his character by giving him powers he didn't need. The writers could have explored the same story by giving bending to a air acolyte, preferably a romantic subplot preteen. (Ikki could have been aged up without losing anything) Naturally I would have done something different with Kai, who might have worked better as a red lotus team pet.

Ikki could already airbend. And if she couldn't already, her "gaining" airbending wouldn't surprise anyone because she's Tenzin's daughter.

Well, I do agree that he should have stayed badass like in his intro and not retire. He was the coolest thing in the season 1 finale.

I mean, he really let himself go really drat quickly huh?

Maybe he could have stayed in the military and he and Iroh could have had more prominence working together? I'd have preferred that to his slightly annoying wackiness and whining about his daddy issues personally.

With Jinora.

That's not what I meant. The Air acolytes in this show have been depicted as groupies without giving us a hint of why they've chosen to leave their old lives. A young acolyte being given bending might lead to him lording it over others because of a ingrained inferiority complex. I mentioned Ikki because a few scenes showing him serving food or avoiding play would make sense if he considered himself servile and the easiest way to depict his character growth would be through a cliche kiddie romance.

Ex:

1. I'm not good enough

2. Wow I'm good!

3. Look at me! See how I'm so good!

4. Rebuke and capture

5. Epiphany, rescue and acceptance

Toph was 12, like Aang.

Why even use Ikki when we already have Jinora? Basically your entire fanfic (if it had to be done) (it doesn't), could be streamlined by simply making Kai the acolyte.

1. Kai would have to be rewritten from the ground up in order for that to work. At a certain point you're dealing with an entirely new character.

2. I have plans for her. :) If I ever did a fanfic I'd start it towards the end of book 1.
