leather fedora posted:The fact that such old rumors like "ZUN said no Touhou anime ever" are still floating around kind of frustrates me that there were few translators worth their salt in the community until fairly recently. Or maybe it's just the more sensationalist stuff tends to stick around longer. Isn't 2d animation still one of the things that is specifically disallowed without his consent though? I'm kind of assuming http://www.gensokyo.org/archives/1682 is accurate and current, but it does specifically rule against it; I'd thought the likes of Summer Day's Dream got away with things because a) they predate those rules in their original forms and b) they actually contacted ZUN about it at some point.

Last I knew anime was more of a "be absolutely clear this is a fan thing, not official" and that was that.

Wait, so there's never going to be an official Touhou anime? Possibly for the best, I guess. I can't help but see an anime directed by ZUN as anything but this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b_polwFplI with beer.

Admittedly, I only saw that Touhou 14 was on the JP side and not the English side, but it does seem like it would be weird to have completely different purchasing systems for both regions.

There's a fairly long history of a handful of fangames being available digitally, and I didn't have any trouble getting them to take a foreign credit card as of a couple of years ago, so he doesn't seem to object to that anyway. Even if he did, it's not like he's under any obligation to follow his own rules. He can leverage his intellectual property utilizing whatever innovative paradigms he wants and still ask fans to keep it offline.

IN is mechanically hard in that the bullets are fairly fast and dense, but makes up for it by giving you a ton of bombs and lives. How easy you find it depends on how good your bombing instinct is. Ten Desires is sort of the opposite in that the bullets are simple but they don't give you many lives. ...unless you were playing it on Easy. Imperishable Night is notable for having the easiest Easy mode, with the largest differences between Easy and Normal.

IN was a good way of forcing myself to learn how to bomb good because I spent half the time practicing on lunatic. I'm bad at bullet hell games but not bad enough to play on easy.

I always found IN to be pretty easy on account of the giant death bomb window. It took me a while to 1cc it, but I found it much more manageable than SA or EoSD.

I cannot play IN because it does not work with my controller. And by that I mean it only moves in 4 directions like the keyboard and not a 360 degree circle like the other games.

Problem is that deathbombing in IN uses up two bombs, so it's really a penalty. IN should train you to bomb well before you die.

I started off playing IN and I wish I hadn't, it taught me the absolute worst in lazy bomb discipline. It took me ages to get used to bombing properly in the other games.

That way you have a sample size large enough that you can conclude that touhou has in fact the "single largest body of simulated child pornography in human history". Then you can show your findings to ZUN. Scrub

I'm so glad I bookmarked this article 4 years ago: http://www.japanator.com/touhou-is-way-too-popular-on-the-doujinshi-scene-14537.phtml As you can see, Touhou has the largest total amount of porn, but one of the lower ratios. For the sake of argument I'm assuming it's all child porn because anime.

In non-pornographic news, chapter 20 of Wild and Horned Hermit is now on the touhouwiki. As foreshadowed by leather fedora a week ago. In which Reimu has a get-rich-quick scheme and something vaguely problematic is foiled by Kasen, mythology detective. In other words business as usual. Also Kasen meets Suika for the first time in-series, if you're into that kind of thing.

Personally if something that I made ended up inspiring a gigantic body of anime child porn I would do some soul searching, maybe say something like "I would prefer not to see anime child porn based on my characters being sold at the venue where I distribute my games".

ZUn has some comments on pornography in his open license agreement guidelines thing. Basically he asks people to refrain from "excessive" depictions that are "inappropriate according to societal norms", which he later defines as "don't do anything illegal". Also that you need to contact him for approval to make any commercial porn like body pillows, and also that he will never ever approve those. But other than that he's not particularly bothered. You can read the whole thing here. Also related to the anime discussion I guess. Clarste fucked around with this message at 22:00 on Oct 7, 2014 |

Answer to "how does ZUn feel about...": he's not particularly bothered and is content to let the law decide what's appropriate or not.

This mysterious peddler was wearing glasses but Suika does not wear glasses so it's impossible for them to be the same person. It's basically the perfect disguise. Also, this chapter was not as good as the last one. Kasen work's a lot better when she's not the main focus. Suika was pretty great though.
